Townhouse development, Danish Home to be discussed at 41st Ward Zoning Advisory Committee meeting

A proposed eight-unit townhouse development at 5015 N.
Harlem Ave. and the planned expansion of the Danish Home retirement facility at
5656 N. Newcastle Ave. will be discussed at the Nov. 6 meeting of the 41st Ward
Zoning Advisory Committee.
The meeting will held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the
Olympia Park fieldhouse, 6566 N. Avondale Ave.
Each of the three-story townhouses, which would be
constructed on the site of a parking lot, would include three bedrooms and 3
1/2 bathrooms. There also would be a two-car attached garage with each unit.
The projected sale price for each unit would be about
$499,000, according to Alderman Anthony Napolitano’s chief of staff Chris
Vittorio. Each unit would measure about 2,200 square feet.
The committee also will discuss a plan to build a
three-story addition to the Danish Home. Nearby homeowners have expressed
concern that the addition would run along a public alley behind their homes,
with no setback for a portion of the addition, and have asked that the overall
scope of the project be scaled back in size.
The project would allow the Danish Home to meet the
current trend of larger, independent living units in retirement communities,
according to project officials. The number of independent units would increase
from 20 to 38 and the number of skilled nursing beds from 17 to 20 under the
proposal
The Danish Home was founded in 1891 and has been located
on Newcastle since 1907, when a farmhouse stood on the site. Part of the
existing facility was constructed there in 1914.
