Van strikes woman, son

A 48-year-old man was issued citations after he fatally struck a 2-year-old boy and injured his mother with his van at about 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, in the 4700 block of North Central Avenue, according to Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.
The 39-year-old woman and her son were crossing the street when the driver of the van, who was traveling west on Giddings Street, turned south onto Central and struck the two, according to police. The boy was pronounced dead at Lutheran General Hospital and the woman was treated for minor injuries at the hospital, police said.
The driver was charged with one count of failure to stop at a stop sign, two counts of failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and two counts of failure to reduce speed, police said.
