16 Candles, Buckinghams coming to fest at Milwaukee/Elston
The Gladstone Park Chamber of Commerce’s “Throwback Music Fest,” featuring the music of the 1950s through 1980s, will be held the weekend of Sept. 9-11 on Milwaukee Avenue between Elston Avenue and Peterson Avenue.
The festival will run from 4 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11.
Daily passes for the festival’s craft beer tasting, which will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, are available for $25 at www.eventbrite.com. A pass includes a souvenir tasting glass and 15 3-ounce samplings from both regional and national breweries.
The main stage music lineup on Friday is Bon Jovi tribute band Bad Medicine at 5:45 p.m. and 1980s tribute band 16 Candles at 8:15 p.m. Saturday’s schedule features Todd and the Ten Pins at noon, 97Nine at 2 p.m., Beatlerama at 4 p.m., Rolling Stones tribute band Hot Rocks at 5:15 p.m., Abba Salute at 6:45 p.m. and the Shagadelics at 8:45 p.m.
On Sunday, the entertainment schedule includes the Flat Cats at noon, Rick “Elvis” Saucedo at 2 p.m., Dick Diamond and the Dusters at 4 p.m., the Buckinghams at 6 p.m. and Generation at 8 p.m. The Buckinghams’ hits include “Kind of a Drag,” “Susan,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” and “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song.”
A variety of children’s activities, including bouncy houses and art projects, also are planned, and a 9/11memorial ceremony honoring first responders will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the traffic island at Milwaukee and Elston avenues. A class car show also is slated.
