by BRIAN NADIG

A parole check at a Big Oaks area home near Normandy Avenue and Argyle Street in August resulted in the recovery of suspected drugs, a gun and a burglary tool, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 16th District Advisory Committee at its Sep. 17 meeting voted to award the district’s “officer of the month” award to officers Kristen Brown and Javier Magdaleno for the arrest of the parolee, who is back in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections. The suspect is facing a dozen new charges.

It was reported at the meeting that police had been receiving complaints about drug activity in the area.

The officers assisted the department with the parole check, and upon arrival several people were detained, according to police.
A satchel with a clear rock-like substance in a plastic Ziploc bag labeled “J” and believed to be suspected methamphetamine reportedly was found in the garage, police said.

A gun and two magazines, one of which was loaded, reportedly was found in a closet inside the residence, police said. Also, an additional amount of a clear rock-like substance, weighing 74 grams, reportedly was found inside the home, police said.

Also recovered was a TOPDON vehicle reprogrammer and a bag with numerous credit cards, which reportedly did not it belong to the suspect, police said.

Key fob reprogrammers are being increasingly used to help steal cars, according to police.

A woman also was arrested in connection with the premise check, police said.

Efforts are being made to evict tenants at the residence, police said.

Also in the district in August, a parole check at a home in the Indian Road Park area near Elston and Milwaukee avenues resulted in the recovery of suspected drugs, about $9,000 in cash and a rifle magazine loaded with an unknown amount of ammunition, according to police.
