5-story building proposed for former Lin’s Garden site on Milwaukee Ave
by BRIAN NADIG
A five-story, mixed-use building is being proposed for the site of the former Lin’s Garden Chinese Restaurant, 6556 N. Milwaukee Ave.
The 41st Ward Zoning Advisory Board is scheduled to discuss the proposal at its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Olympia Park fieldhouse, 6566 N. Avondale Ave. Another proposal for the ward may be added to the meeting’s agenda, but formal plans for that project have not been submitted to Alderman Anthony Napolitano’s office.
The restaurant site proposal calls for about 20 “high-end” apartments on the upper floors and about 4,700 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, Napolitano said. The project’s developer is requesting that the property be rezoned from B3-1 to the less restrictive B3-2, Napolitano said.
The apartments would have balconies, and ground-level parking is planned. A site plan shows that a roof deck or penthouse on a possible sixth floor may be considered.
There are several nearby multi-family residential buildings of five stories or higher within a couple blocks of the site, which is located across from Niles. The restaurant has been closed for more than 5 years.
Votes taken by the advisory board serve as a recommendation to Napolitano.
