Apartments planned for K House of Flowers Shop

by BRIAN NADIG

A 3 1/2-story building with four apartments is being proposed for the former K House of Flowers Shop at the northeast corner of Milwaukee and Foster avenues.

A presentation on the proposal will take place at a community meeting that also will include a presentation on a proposed brewery and nine apartments for the former Jefferson Park firehouse at the southeast corner of Ainslie Street and Lipps Avenue, near the Jefferson Park CTA Terminal. The firehouse was built in 1906, and a portion of the building would be preserved, as it would be converted from two to four stories.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 pm Thursday, March 8, on the third floor of the Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Ave.

Alderman John Arena (45th) is hosting the meeting.

One of the apartments for the flower shop building site would be located in the basement, according to Arena’s chief of staff Owen Brugh. Eight parking spaces are planned.

Each of the four apartments would have two bathrooms and two bedrooms. No ground-floor retail is planned for the former flower shop site.

The flower shop closed a few months after its longtime owner passed away a couple of years ago.
