Associated Bank closing in Edgebrook

by BRIAN NADIG
Associated Bank is planning to close its Edgebrook branch at the southeast corner of Central and Devon avenues on Jan. 31.
A bank has been located on the parcel, whose address is 6355 N. Central Ave., for more than 40 years. It includes a drive-through facility.
Associated Bank, which is headquartered in Green Bay, WI, is directing Edgebrook branch customers to use its closest facility at 5200 N. Central Ave.
Associated Bank bought Gladstone-Norwood Trust and Savings about 30 years ago. At the time Gladstone-Norwood’s main facility was located at 5200 N. Central Ave. and it had a branch on the Edgebrook site.
It’s not clear what will happen to the Central-Devon parcel after the branch closes next month.
A spokesperson for Alderman Samantha Nugent (39th) said that no one has approached the ward office regarding the site’s redevelopment.
The property is zoned B3-1, which permits a variety of retail and office uses. A drive-through for a restaurant on the site would require the issuance of a special use from the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The bank issued the following statement on the closing of the branch:
“The analysis of branch locations, their transaction trends and strategic fit, is an ongoing process at Associated and throughout the banking industry. These consolidations reflect a recent evaluation of our retail footprint to ensure our network is ideally positioned for future success, especially as it pertains to evolving customer banking preferences and the changing regulatory and competitive environment.”
