Big pot bust reported
Two men were arrested early Monday, Sept. 9, after officers executing a search warrant discovered about $6.9 million worth of marijuana in a home in the 4400 block of North Melvina Avenue and additional drugs in a home in the 3500 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue, according to the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.
Chicago Police Narcotics Division officers and patrol officers seized more than 950 pounds of marijuana and a .22 caliber firearm in a search of the residence on Melvina, according to police. Officers seized an additional 10 pounds of marijuana and $36,000 in cash from the residence on Kilpatrick, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Manuel Mata, age 37, of the Melvina address, and Joaquin Muneton, age 39, of the Kilpatrick address.
Mata was charged with one count of felony possession of cannabis, one misdemeanor count of possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card and one misdemeanor count of not having a firearm registration certificate, and Muneton was charged with one count of felony possession of cannabis, police said.
