Butera Market stores transitioning to Shop & Save

by BRIAN NADIG

Shop & Save Market, which operates five grocery stores in the Chicago area and will soon open a sixth in Palatine, has announced that it is taking over Butera Market, including its locations in Harwood Heights and Norridge.

Formally known as “Butera Finer Foods,” the family-owned chain was founded in 1963 and was well known for its low prices. While Butera no longer has a Northwest Side location, its Harwood Heights and Norridge stores have continued to attract lots of Chicago residents.

The first Butera to transition to a Shop & Save store will be its Algonquin location on Tuesday, May 26, according to the Shop & Save Facebook page.

“We start a new chapter in Algonquin on May 26th! Shop & Save Market/Local Market is taking over Butera Market, and we are working intensively on many changes that will follow in the near future. Please be patient during this transition period. We are doing our best to create an exceptional shopping place for you!” the company announced.

The announcement also said that costumers can expect “a bigger choice (of) novelties and fresh products, … international products and local favorites,” with low prices.

“And (Algonquin) is only the beginning! We are also inviting you to our new locations soon: Grayake, Harwood Heights, Lindenhurst, Norridge … the best is yet to come.”

Shop & Save opened a Northwest Side location more than 10 years ago at 6312 N. Nagle Ave., the site of a former Dominick’s Finer Foods.

Shop & Save stores include an array of Polish and other international foods and bakery, produce, meat, seafood, deli, dairy and liquor sections.
