Car wash proposed for former Elliott’s Dairy site at Nagle-Gunnison

A car wash has been proposed for the former Elliott’s Dairy site at 4800 N. Nagle Ave., Harwood Heights.
The 9,600-square-foot grocery store closed without notice on March 18, 2010, the day after Saint Patrick’s Day.
In business for more than 40 years, Elliott’s was famous for its corned beef, and it presumably stayed open through March 17 so it could fill orders for the holiday. Delivery drivers showed up the next day to learn of the store’s closing by reading a handwritten note on the door.
The approximately 32,000-square-foot parcel is located at the northwest corner of Nagle Avenue and Gunnison Street. While located in the Village of Harwood Heights, the property borders Chicago to the north, east and southeast.
The village’s Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a hearing on the car wash proposal at its meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Village Hall, 7300 W. Wilson Ave.
Several years ago Walgreen’s looked into opening a store on the site, according to a village official.
