Central Ave. bridge work in Edgebrook area to cause lane reductions

by BRIAN NADIG
Lane reductions are expected on the Central Avenue bridge over the North Branch of the Chicago River starting Monday, Aug. 17, due to a state roadway construction project.
The bridge is located in the 6000 block of North Central Avenue in Edgebrook between Indian Road on the south and the Edgebrook Clubhouse entry drive on the north.
To complete the work, Central will be reduced from two to one lane in both directions, with various lane shifts approaching the bridge., according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The $1.1 million project, which consists of repairing the bridge deck and installing a new deck overlay and guardrail, is anticipated to be completed in late November, the department said.
The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area, and alternative routes are encouraged, the department said. Drivers also are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
In addition, state Representative Mike Kelly’s office reported the following updates to the Devon Avenue construction project in Sauganash and Lincolnwood:
Sidewalk, driveway and curb and gutter construction along the south side of Devon between Le Mai Avenue and Lenox Avenue is scheduled to continue through Aug. 17, while other ongoing work includes earthwork and excavation at the east and west bridge abutments and the removal of existing piers.
Some of the bridge removal is scheduled to occur at night, generating construction noise, according to state officials.
Over the next six years IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of “Rebuild Illinois,” which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation.
