Chicago Fringe Festival 2013
The entertainment lineup has been announced for the fourth annual "Chicago Fringe Festival" that will be held from Aug. 29 through Sept. 8 at venues in Jefferson Park.
The festival will feature 25 performances by artists and companies from around the United States.
Admission to the festival is $5 and a button can be purchased at Fischman’s Liquors, 4780 N. Milwaukee Ave., which will serve as "Fringe Central" for events. Admission to performances will be $10 with the purchase of a button.
The cost of a five-show pass is $45, the cost of a 10-show pass is $80 and the cost of an unlimited pass is $175.
Each venue will have a box office for day-of purchases.
The festival features performances including "Generation Sex: Get Connected" by Teatra Luna, "Men and Dogs" by Jonathan Baude, "Shift" by the Blueshift Theater Company," "Our Fair City: A Live Post-Apocalyptic Audiodrama" by Hartlife NFP, and "Maps" by Mam Luft and Co.
Also, "Anonymously Yours" by Jennifer Olson, "Home" by (re)discover theater, "Beware the Werewolf: Tales of Terror from the Louisiana Bayou" by the Sea Beast Puppet Company, "Heart in a Cage" by the Spartan Theater Company and "Troupe Strozzi Mounts Olympus" by Troupe Strozzi.
Fischman’s will feature activities including board games and video games, music and crafts.
An opening reception will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, and a "Freakin’ Fringe-aoke" will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30.
A panel discussion on the topic "The Place of Fringe in a Storefront City" will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31. Participants can eat a continental breakfast and discuss the festival and its place in Jefferson Park.
A "Preposterous Prom at the Fringe" event will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31. The event will feature a prom with a photo booth, a picture gallery, a dance off, spin the bottle games, a prom court, finger lasers and a make-out limo.
A "Fringe Benefit Night" event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1. Tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
An "Outrageous Olympics: Frolicking Fringe Style" will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2. The event will feature shoe golf, Frisbee tic tac toe, a water balloon target, paper plate discus, seed spitting, a straw javelin throw, a torch run and a cotton ball putt.
Events at 8 p.m. will include a relay, tassel spinning, a shot balance contest, creative shot drinking, beer pong and string eating.
A program titled "Fringe Unplugged, Unfettered and Unleashed" will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5. The event will feature a fake campfire, board games, story telling, acoustic guitars, crafts and bubbles.
A program titled "Sextravaganza/Sexpo/Sexy Pie Night" will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6. The event will feature speed dating and other activities.
A program titled "The One, The Only CLLAW: Chicago League of Lady Arm Wrestlers" will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. The event will feature an arm wrestling competition.
A program titled "Anti-Oscars Awards Night and Climactic Closing" will be held at 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8. The event will feature silly and serious awards, trivia about shows held at the festival, show spoofs and cake.
