City Council honors late Polish radio, TV personality Krzysztof Arsenowicz

The Chicago City Council honored late Northwest Sider, actor and Polish radio and TV host Krzysztof Arsenowicz with a resolution in February.

Arsenowicz, age 70, died on Feb. 14 of this year. He was known to many in the Polish community, most notably for his work for the Polvision television station and on Polish radio 1030 AM during a career that span more than 20 years.

“Krzysztof was an incredibly talented performer. His empathy for others, however, was no less impressive. That is where he made his biggest mark. Always looking to help others, especially those who had nowhere else to turn to,” said Northwest Side historian Daniel Pogorzelski. He said Arsenowicz lived near Wright College for years, and that he was also a big proponent of the Gift from the Heart Foundation charity in Schiller Park. The charity provides medical support for children with disabilities.

The Feb. 26 resolution, which was sponsored by Alderman Nicholas Sposato (38th), said that Arsenowicz was born in Parczew, Poland on July 2, 1954. He was raised with siblings in the city of Ełk. He immigrated to Chicago in 1986 and found work with the Pritzker family. He later went back to Poland where his daughter Ania was born and returned to the U.S. in 1998, the resolution said.

“Krzysztof Arsenowicz was a fine and talented man, performing as an actor in 21 productions in the Danuta Baduszkowa Musical Theater in Gdynia between 1979 and 1986, securing him an entry in the Polish Encyclopedia of Theater,” the resolution states.

Aside from his radio and television work, he was honored by the Polish American Congress Illinois Division in 2016, premiered a play titled “Marilyn Monroe-Was It Really Like That?” in 2022, and starred in several Polish films including a small role in “Sztos” starring Cezary Pazura and Jan Nowicki.

“Arsenowicz was well known and loved in the Polish community, both professionally and personally; and will always be remembered for his kindness and selflessness, shown through his fundraising efforts for the Gift from the Heart Foundation and organizing Christmas Eve for the lonely at St. Hyacinth Parish for the past 25 years,”  the resolution stated.
