Community meeting on hookah proposal canceled, as project reportedly not moving forward

A community meeting on a proposed hookah lounge at 5725 N. Northwest Hwy. has been canceled, as project representatives no longer want to proceed with the plan, according to Alderman James Gardiner (45th).
The meeting had been scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 5.
If approved, it would have been the third hookah lounge planned for the Gladstone Park area. One is under construction at 5762 N. Milwaukee Ave. (former title loan store), and another is in the works at 5394 N. Milwaukee Ave. (former auto parts store).
The Northwest Highway-Nagle site has been a variety of restaurants for at least the past seven decades but has been vacant for more than a year. For a long time, it was home to Bill’s Drive-in, and most recently St. Bess Jerk restaurant.
The parcel is for sale.
