Copernicus Center to hold ‘Taste of Polonia’
The Copernicus Foundation will hold the 35th annual "Taste of Polonia" festival from Friday Aug. 29 to Monday, Sept. 1, at the Copernicus Cultural and Civic Center, 5126 W. Lawrence Ave.
The hours of the festival are 5 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, noon to 10:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and noon to 10 p.m. Monday.
The festival will feature Polish food, imported beer, a marketplace, folk dancing, casino games, a carnival and arcade games.
The entertainment lineup will feature bands on four stages including Squeezebox, Jak Tripper, Tributosaurus, Goranie and Pudelsi on Aug. 29, World’s Honkiest Polka Band, Phosphene, Usual Chaos, American English, Rico, the D Street Band, Markus P, Dori Koz, Wishing Well, Roze Europy, O! Ela! and Chlopcy z Placu Broni on Aug. 30.
The bands on Aug. 31 will be Chicago Image, Reely Dan, Rick Saucedo, Wedding Banned, Sugar High, Pan Franek, Zosia and the Polkatowners, Kick the Sky, Duobi, Peron, Pudelsi and Autofobia.
The bands on Sept. 1 will be Tony Blazonczyk’s New Phaze, Profusion, the Libido Funk Circus, Ear Candy, Gentlemen of Leisure, Polka Generations, Skalar US, Playwood, O! Ela!, Chlopcy z Placu Broni and Roze Europy.
Activities for children will include a children’s theater, dance and music workshops, a puppet show, karate demonstrations, fitness classes, a cook off, face painting and talent and game shows.
The festival also will feature screenings of Polish movies.
Admission is $7 for adults and free for children age 12 and younger.
