Edgebrook Community Assoc. starts restoration of Central-Devon benches, trash receptacles

by BRIAN NADIG

The Edgebrook Community Association has started its refurbishment of 35 decorative benches and trash receptacles in the Central-Devon business district.

The cost of the improvement project is about $15,000, which is being covered by the remaining funds which Everyday Edgebrook donated to the association. Everyday Edgebrook, which sponsored many promotions and community events in the business district, recently shut down operations.

“Thanks to the generosity of Everyday Edgebrook, the benches and trash receptacles in the Edgebrook business district are being painted. Local resident Noreen Davidson is working with the ECA and several local business owners to freshen up the business district by restoring the benches and trash receptacles that were initially installed during a streetscape project over 20 years ago. Special thanks to Ewa from Pet Wants North, Bruce from A Vintage Bloom and Carly from Bottles and Cans,” the association said in a statement.

“They are encapsulating the benches, scraping and sanding rust, then painting them with DTM semigloss black and applying a semigloss clear coat finish. The same process is being done on the garbage cans as well,” said Pet Wants Chicago North owner Ewa Ryan.

“After this phase is complete, we plan to reach out to local schools to see if any art teachers would like to get involved in painting benches with designs inspired by the Edgebrook area. While we’re not sure if it will be possible, we think it would be a wonderful way to add color to the business district and give kids a chance to express their creativity,” Ryan added.
