Fit City Kids, a sports facility designed for families, is looking into opening inside the former Produce Center, 5820 N. Milwaukee Ave., in Gladstone Park.

Alderman James Gardiner (45th) announced the proposal in a recent letter to residents. Over the summer the alderman rejected a plan to build a car wash on the site after many residents expressed objections at a community meeting.

“My team has actively sought a reputable investor whose plans align with the priorities of our neighborhood. My office is currently in discussions with Fit City Kids, which has expressed interest in developing a sports facility designed for families.

“The concept includes athletic training, tumbling classes, and indoor soccer and basketball courts supporting both youth and adult leagues.

“To move forward, Fit City Kids would seek a zoning amendment from B3-I to B3-3 to accommodate a $7-9 million complex tailored to community recreation needs,” Gardiner wrote in the letter. The height of the existing building reportedly would be increased to accommodate the project.

Fit City has an existing location at 2540 W. Lawrence Ave.

Gardiner will hold a community meeting on the proposal at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at the Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity School, 6040 W. Ardmore Ave.

“As your alderman, I am committed to an open, transparent process for development proposals. My decision will be informed by conversations with the Gladstone Park Neighborhood Association, the Gladstone Park Chamber of Commerce and residents,” Gardiner said.
