Funds raised for the painting of boys’ locker room at Taft HS
The Taft High School Foundation at its "Honor Our Eagles" event on Oct. 5 raised $6,000 which will go toward improving the boys’ locker room, which has not been painted in about 50 years.
Foundation president Richard Winge said that about 1,600 boys use that locker room each week and that with plans to increase the gym credit requirement from 2 to 4 years, the foundation felt it was a necessity to repaint the locker room. The girls’ locker room was refurbished more recently, he said.
Former Taft graduates Jim Grabowski, who starred in the NFL, and UIC basketball coach Howard More attended. Nine retired teachers also were among those honored. The foundation hopes to raise a total of about $15,000 for the project. See tafthsfoundation.org for more info.
