An exchange of gunfire between the occupants of two white sport utility vehicles — one of which had been stolen from the Dunning area — was reported to have occurred at about 1:10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, in the 5800 to 6000 blocks of North Elston Avenue in Gladstone Park, according to Chicago police.

One of the SUVs struck another vehicle on Elston, and the occupants of the SUV reportedly fled on foot, according to police. Four shell casings, from different guns, were found on Elston, but no gun was recovered, police said.

Three suspects, ages 18 to 21, were taken into custody later that night after they were seen in a yard in the 5600 block of North Parkside Avenue and then trying to get into a black car, police said.

They face a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass to property, police said. They were not charged in connection with the stolen vehicle and the reported gunshots, police said.

The damaged SUV, described as a Lexus, was reported stolen in the 3500 block of North Ozanam Avenue, police said.

Names of the suspects were not immediately available.

The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with surveillance footage of the incident is asked to contact the 16th (Jefferson Park) Police District.
