Illinois state trooper assists with burglary arrest in Jefferson Park on Higgins Ave

A man was arrested at about 3:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, after two residents of the 5800 block of West Higgins Avenue reported that he allegedly damaged the rear entry door of their apartment during an apparent burglary, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

A man and a woman reported that they heard loud banging coming from the rear of their apartment and when they went to investigate, they discovered two men forced open the rear entry door, according to police.

The man reported that both men fled so he chased them and was involved in a struggle with one of them while the other man fled in a blue minivan described as either a Toyota Sienna or a Honda Odyssey, police said.

An Illinois State Trooper reported that he was driving when he saw the two men struggling and attempted to place the suspect into custody, according to police. The trooper reported that while he was placing the man under arrest, a butterfly folding knife and a flathead screwdriver allegedly fell out of the man’s pockets, according to police.

The suspect was identified by police as Rolando E. Gonzalez, age 51, of the 3500 block of West Jackson Boulevard. The other man was described as age 60, 5-5 and 230 pounds, answering to the name "Hector," according to police.
