Jefferson Park community parade is coming June 14 to celebrate America’s 250th birthday

The Jefferson Park community will be celebrating America’s 250th birthday on Sunday, June 14, with a farmers’ market, a parade, food trucks and a concert.
The outdoor season of the “Sunday Market” will kick off at 9:30 a.m. at the Jefferson Memorial Park, 4822 N. Long Ave. Produce, meat, cheese, bakery and other vendors will be on display until 1:30 p.m.
The parade will start at 2 p.m., proceeding north on Milwaukee Avenue from Wilson Avenue on the south to Higgins Avenue on the north. The parade will then turn down Higgins for about 1/2 block, ending in front of the park.
Spectators are asked to line up along the east side of Milwaukee, where a parking ban will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
During the parade, the Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce will be handing out flags, patriotic pinwheels and candy while supplies last.
The planned parade participants include a marching band, classic cars and local businesses. The procession is expected to last about 15 minutes.
The parade will march by the Jefferson Park war memorial at Milwaukee and Higgins avenues, where some local residents took their oath into the military during World War II.
The last community parade on Milwaukee was in 1976 for the country’s bicentennial celebration.
At the end of the parade, food trucks will be available at the park. The scheduled vendors are Barrio Smash Burgers, Bella’s Kitchen and Snowie Shaved Ice.
The City Wide Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to perform a free outdoor concert at the park at 3 p.m.
