July 16 meeting set on tax levy increase for 6 Corners SSA
The Six Corners Special Service Area Commission will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16, to discuss an increase in its property tax levy from about $226,000 in the 2014 tax year to about $284,000 this year, according to commission chairman Joe Angelastri.
The commission uses tax revenue from the special service area to fund business recruitment activities, beatification projects and marketing initiatives in the Six Corners commercial district Milwaukee Avenue and Cicero avenues and Irving Park Road. The meeting will be held at Las Tablas Columbian Steakhouse, 4920 W. Irving Park Road.
The tax rate for the levy will fall within the tax cap allowed by the ordinance which created the special service area. There are about 50 special service areas in the city, and each commission consists of local property and business owners.
A portion of the funding increase will be used for the maintenance of landscaping and streetscaping elements that are located on the public way, Angelastri said.
The Six Corners Special Service Area was created 10 years ago. The Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce recently filed an application to create a special service area for the Lawrence-Milwaukee and Lawrence-Austin commercial districts.
