Local Crime from 17th District 2-24-18
A WOMAN WAS shot at about 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, while she was driving her vehicle in the 3700 block of West Addison Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 19-year-old woman reported that as she was driving with a 19-year-old woman in the front passenger seat near the Kennedy Expressway, she heard gunshots and saw someone firing a weapon at a vehicle traveling in front of them and then discovered she had been shot in her left hand, and that the front passenger window and rear passenger door had been damaged by bullets, according to police.
The woman reported that she picked up her 23-year-old boyfriend following the incident and that he later drove her to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center for treatment, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, in the 3800 block of North Keeler Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 18-year-old man reported that while he was walking on the sidewalk, two men exited a silver sport utility vehicle, approached him and told him to drop to the ground while one of the men pointed a handgun at him, and that as he hesitated and remained standing, the man placed the weapon against his head and said, "I’m not playing, get on your stomach," according to police.
The man reported that when he got on his stomach, the men searched through his pockets and took his jacket, his iPhone 7 cell phone, his backpack and his wallet containing identification cards and $9 in cash before they entered their vehicle and drove away north, police said.
The man with the handgun was described as Hispanic, age 25 to 30, between 5-9 and 5-10, between 160 and 170 pounds and wearing a black hooded jacket, and the second suspect was described as Hispanic with short black hair.
A WOMAN was stabbed with a piece of glass at about 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in the 3900 block of West Ainslie Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 64-year-old woman reported that while she was sitting inside her vehicle, a man opened her door and demanded her cell phone, and that as she struggled with him, he stabbed her in the left hand with a piece of glass and then ran away south, according to police.
The man was described as Hispanic, age 45 to 50, about 5-2 and wearing a dark blue jacket.
A TAXICAB driver reported he that was robbed at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, while he was driving his vehicle in the 3900 block of West Wilson Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 59-year-old driver reported that as he was dropping off a male passenger, the man placed an object against the back of his head and demanded his money, and that after he handed him $50 in cash, the man hit him in the back of his head with the object, exited the vehicle and ran away south, according to police.
The man was described as Hispanic, about age 35, 5-9 and 200 pounds with a black ponytail hairstyle and a tattoo of a lion on his neck, and wearing a navy blue t-shirt, blue jeans and a red baseball hat with Chicago printed on the front.
A TAXICAB driver reported that he was robbed at about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, while he was driving his vehicle in the 3200 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 58-year-old driver reported that two female passengers entered his vehicle and one of the women repeatedly gave him directions to make several right and left turns before she said, "Give me your money or we will shoot you," according to police.
The man reported that after he held up his cell phone and said that he would call the police, one of the women threatened to call the police and say that he tried to rape her and then repeated that they were going to shoot him, and that he told them he did not want to get shot and handed the women $50 in cash before they exited the vehicle and ran away, police said.
The men were described as white and between age 30 and 39.
A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed at about 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in the 3300 block of West Cullom Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 15-year-old teenager reported that while he was walking on the sidewalk, a man approached him from behind and pushed him to the ground, and that a woman held him down while the man searched through his pockets and took his iPhone 7 cell phone valued at $700 and $202 in cash before they both fled, according to police.
A COUPLE reported that their apartment in the 3300 block of North Hamlin Avenue was burglarized between 12 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, and 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The couple reported that when they returned home they discovered that their unit had been broken into and that an iMac laptop valued at $1,000, $600 in cash and a silver charm bracelet valued at $200 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 3300 block of North Hamlin was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear gate had been opened, the side door to the garage had been opened and damaged and the rear door to the residence had been forced open, and that two Chromebook laptops, an iPhone 6 cellphone, multiple Cannon cameras, jewelry and an unknown amount of cash were missing, according to police.
