Local Crime from 16th District 1-1-20
A MAN REPORTED he was robbed at about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, in the 6300 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 50-year-old man reported that he was sitting in his vehicle when a truck drove up and a passenger shined a flashlight at him, according to police. The man reported that the man identified himself as a police officer and told him to approach the truck and empty his pockets and he handed over his wallet and the man reached into the his front shirt pocket and took two checks and approximately $500 in cash, police said. The man reported that the driver and passenger were not wearing anything to indicate they were officers, police said.
The driver was described as white, female, with brown hair and glasses. The passenger was described as a black, male, and 5-8.
A WOMAN reported that her son was attacked at about 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, in the 5200 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that her 14-year-old son told her that as he and friends were driving down West Addison Street when a truck drove up next to them, swerved into the bike lane and came to a stop, according to police. The son reported that a man and woman exited the truck and the woman put him in a headlock and cursed at him while the man prevented them from leaving, police said.
The man was described as white, age 45 to 55, 5-8 to 5-9, 160 and 200 pounds, bald, and wearing a brown jacket, white t-shirt and blue jeans. The woman was described as white, age 45 and 55, 5-3 to 5-4, 140 and 160 pounds, with short brown hair and wearing a purple jacket and blue jeans.
A MAN WAS placed into custody for allegedly hitting a man with his vehicle at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, in the parking lot of Foremost Liquors, 3210 N. Cicero Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he observed a man park in the lot and go into another store, ignoring signs warning that parking was for Foremost customers and that violators would have their vehicles booted, according to police. The man reported that the man returned to his vehicle, saw a boot on his car and started shouting profanities at him, police said. The man attempted to exit the parking lot and when the security guard stepped behind the vehicle to take down information, the man backed the car into the security guard and knocked him to the ground, according to police.
The man was placed into custody but it’s unclear if he was charged.
A WOMAN WAS cut with a knife at about 5:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, in the 6500 block of North Onarga Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 21-year-old woman reported that while returning from the store she noticed a small dog in the alley and pulled over, according to police. The woman reported that as she picked the dog up to see if it had a collar, a man approached her, yelled out "Put my dog down," pulled out a small knife and slashed her across the right cheek, left thumb and left forearm, police said.
The man was described as age 30 to 40, 5-8 and 5-10, 175 and 200 pounds with long sideburns and brown eyes.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly breaking into cars at about 1 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, in the 6400 block of West Dakin Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A witness reported that he saw a man wearing all white clothing breaking into cars and officers located a man matching a description and saw him drop several items behind a truck, according to police. The witness reported that he directed the officers to the cars that had been broken into and they discovered broken windows and abrasions on the man’s knuckles, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Omar Soto, age 26, of unknown address at time of report.
A MAN REPORTED that he saw a group of ten men damaging cars with street signs at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, in the 6600 block of West Devon Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The men were described as white.
A WOMAN reported that a man and a woman stole a vehicle and items from her home in the 5200 block of North Lind Avenue, at about 7 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that after a night of drinking she awoke to find her friend’s boyfriend removing a flat screen television set from her home and placing it in her father’s truck, along with a TV taken from another room, according to police. The woman reported that when she tried to stop the man he got into her dad’s truck and drove away, police said. The woman reported that both her and her boyfriend’s cell phones were also missing along with $200 in cash and an Apple watch, according to police. The woman also reported that a lockbox containing paperwork was removed from her father’s locked bedroom and found opened on the lawn but that nothing was missing, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that the future location of DSD Sausage & Deli, 5201 N. Milwaukee Ave., was burglarized between 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, and 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the business, a lock box containing a key to the building was missing and that $2,800 worth of construction materials and tools were missing from the inside, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6200 block of West Foster Avenue was burglarized between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and two guns valued at $600 and $500 in jewelry were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that a man attempted to break into her home in the 4500 block of North Monitor Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she heard her doorbell ring but wasn’t expecting anyone so she didn’t answer and that she heard a banging at her rear door, approached and asked, "Who is it?" and looked out of her rear window to see a man walking through her back yard toward the alley, police said. Officers found pry marks on her rear doorknob and damage to the rear doorframe, according to police.
The man was described as age 30 to 35, 5-10 to 6-0, and wearing a gray sweatshirt.
SEVERAL motor vehicle thefts were reported between 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21 and 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 7600 block of West Ibsen Street, the 5100 block of West Lawrence Avenue, the 4900 block of West Warwick Avenue, the 4500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, the 6000 block of North Avondale Avenue, the 3400 block of North Cicero Avenue, the 6200 block of West Irving Park Road, the 5200 block of West Melrose Street and in the 4000 block of North Moody Avenue, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, in the 5300 block of North Cumberland Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 54-year-old man reported that while driving on Cumberland a man in the vehicle behind him started honking the horn, then drove around him and stopped his vehicle, according to police. The man reported that he exited his vehicle, approached and kicked the driver’s side door of the vehicle and that the other man exited and they fought until they fell to the ground and one of the men returned to his car and left, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 50 to 55.
