Local Crime from 16th District 1-20-2016
SHOTS WERE fired at about 10:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, in the 5200 block of West Hutchinson Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired and discovered eight .38 Special shell casings in the alley, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man fired a gun at him at about 7:55 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, in the 3500 block of North Oketo Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 22-year-old man reported that as he was walking south from Addison Street, a man approached him from behind and fired multiple shots at him and then fled in the alley, according to police. The man was not injured, police said.
The gunman was described as white/Hispanic and age 20 to 30.
A VAN WAS set on fire at about 8:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, in the 7300 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of a 2000 Chevrolet Express van on fire and when they got there the car was engulfed in flames and being extinguished by the fire department, according to police.
A woman reported that she saw that the vehicle’s windows were broken out and that there was fire in the passenger seat, police said. An anonymous caller reported that he saw two men break the van’s windows and throw something inside, according to police. Officers think that the incident might be related to a shooting earlier in the day on Oketo Avenue, police said.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant, 6408 W. Irving Park Road, was robbed at gunpoint at about 7:25 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 34-year-old woman reported that a man displayed a handgun and that a second man took $211 and the two fled in a Ford Explorer with gold trim, according to police.
EMPLOYEES reported that the Max’s Food and Liquor store, 6200 W. Belmont Ave., was robbed at gunpoint at about 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employees, age 51 and 57, reported that two men wearing ski masks entered the store and that one of them displayed a handgun and the other man took $1,500 and two bottles of cognac, police said.
THE PRINCIPAL of Dever School, 3436 N. Osceola Ave., reported that a student told her that a man attempted to lure him into his car at about 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, in the 3300 block of North Oketo Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The principal reported that the 12-year-old boy said that a man drove up in a gray vehicle with a monster sticker on the rear bumper, rolled down his window and asked him if he wanted a ride, and that when he said that he didn’t, the man drove away, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 30 to 40, with black hair and a bump under his left eye.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that the 7-Eleven store, 6200 N. Sayre Ave., was robbed at gunpoint at about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 39-year-old man reported that two men entered the store and that one of them displayed a handgun and the other man took $200, five cartons of cigarettes and food items, according to police.
A COUPLE reported that their home in the 6100 block of North Ozark Avenue was burglarized between 6:10 pm. and 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man and the woman reported that when they returned home they discovered that the rear door had been broken in and that women’s jewelry, a ring and a metal safe containing $70,000 in cash and personal documents were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her purse was stolen at about 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, in the 7100 block of West Waveland Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 76-year-old woman reported that a car drove up next to her and a man leaned out the window and took her purse containing $200 in cash, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6900 block of North Chicora Avenue was burglarized between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that five purses were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 6300 block of North Le Mai Avenue was burglarized between 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, and 5 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he discovered that a briefcase valued at $700, a passport, a snow blower valued at $400, a set of golf clubs valued at $1,800, house keys and $100 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5100 block of North Austin Avenue was burglarized between 9:30 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a concrete block had been thrown through his rear bedroom window and that a watch, a sweater, an iPad mini and $50 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that items were stolen from her vehicle at about 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, in the 6100 block of West Berenice Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she discovered that a window of her 2012 Volkswagen was broken and that her purse containing her wallet, debit cards, a social security card and a driver’s license was missing, according to police.
