Local Crime from 16th District 1-22-14
A MAN REPORTED was shot at about 10:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, in the 4300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 19-year-old man reported that a man he knows shot him in the abdomen and arm from a car, according to police. The man was admitted to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly attempted to cash a bogus check at about 11:25 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the U.S. Bank, 6100 N. Northwest Hwy., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee at the bank reported that the man tried to cash a $400 check that was suspicious, and that she called the owners of the account who said that they did not write the check, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Nathaniel T. Cruz, age 18, of the 7700 block of Lake Street, River Forest.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 2:50 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, in the 4100 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 31-year-old man reported that as he was walking to a currency exchange to make change for the store he works at, two men approached him from behind and that one of them displayed a handgun and the two took $300 from him, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that 4 Get Me Not Flowers, 5539 W. Montrose Ave., was robbed at about 6:10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man entered the store, displayed and took $300 from the cash register and $100 from her wallet, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that Yolanta’s Deli, 5914 W. Higgins Ave., was robbed at about 11:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man entered the store, displayed a handgun and took $400 from the cash register, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5500 block of North Central Avenue was burglarized between 10:15 a.m. and 2:35 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that his neighbor called him and told him that the back door was open, and he discovered that a diamond engagement ring and an iPad were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5100 block of North Moody Avenue was burglarized between 7:50 and 8:05 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that two gold wedding rings valued at $2,200, a gold necklace valued at $1,700, two watches valued at $5,700, a men’s ring valued at $500 and $2,000 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4400 block of North Cicero Avenue was burglarized from about 1 a.m. to about 3:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she discovered that two wooden doors valued at $200, a bathroom cabinet valued at $200, three light fixtures valued at $800, a grill valued at $500 and four bicycles valued at $250 were missing, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that Firestone, 5215 N. Milwaukee Ave., was robbed between 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, and 7:30 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that he discovered the cash intake deposited into the stores’ safe at the end of the night was missing after the security company informed him that the alarm went off, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 5600 block of North Menard Avenue was burglarized between 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, and 6 p.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported he discovered the side door had been pried open and that a snow blower and tools were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN WAS charged with retail theft following her arrest at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Whole Foods store, 6030 N. Cicero Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A loss prevention agent reported that she saw the woman open a bottle of vitamins, pour them into her purse and leave the store without paying for the vitamins, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Diane T. Zito, age 58, of the 4300 block of North Harding Avenue.
