Local Crime from 16th District 1-3-18

A MAN WAS arrested on drug and weapons charges in a raid at about 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at his home in the 4400 block of North Menard Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers conducted a search warrant and entered through the rear kitchen door after occupants were seen running through the home and not answering the door, according to police. The man was placed into custody and officers recovered a scale, at least four knotted bags containing a powdery substance suspected of being cocaine, 12 knotted bags each containing five pills suspected of being Xanax, a.25-caliber semiautomatic handgun loaded with six live rounds and $1,820 in cash, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Jason Bergollo, age 32, of the 4400 block of North Menard Avenue.

A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 1:10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, in the 5600 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 32-year-old man reported that as he was leaving Charlotte’s Bar & Grill, 6000 W. Gunnison St., three men offered him a ride and when they drove to Irving Park they got out of the car, punched and kicked him, and took his cell phone and wallet, according to police. The man was transported to Community First Medical Center and treated for serious blunt trauma, police said.
The men were described only as black.

A WITNESS reported that he saw four men breaking into a home in the 7600 block of West Winona Street at about 7:25 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 18-year-old man reported that he heard loud noises from his neighbor’s home and that he called 9-1-1 after he saw four men leaving the home with items in their hands and driving away in a black four-door car east on Winona, according to police. Officers discovered that the front door had been kicked in and the resident, a 54-year-old man, reported that a revolver, five collectible Barbie dolls, a silver watch, a black Samsung cell phone and $500 in cash were missing, police said.
The men were described as black, age 25 to 30, about 6-2 to 6-4, and wearing black jeans and hooded sweatshirts. One man was further described as wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt while the other three men wore black sweatshirts.

A WITNESS reported that he saw two people breaking into a home in the 8700 block of West Summerdale Avenue at about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 49-year-old man reported that he was pulling his vehicle into the driveway shared with his neighbor when he saw a man climbing into the first-floor side window of his neighbor’s home, and that as he exited his vehicle the man jumped out from the window and ran into a nearby car driven by a woman, according to police. The man reported that he followed the car as it sped away to photograph the license plate of the vehicle, a silver 2011 Nissan Versa missing its rear bumper and rear left hubcap, according to police. The resident, a 42-year-old woman, did not report anything missing, police said.
The man was described as white with a fair skin complexion, age 25 to 35, about 5-8 to 5-10 and 150 to 170 pounds, and wearing a beanie cap and jeans. The woman was described as white and age 25 to 35.

AN EMPLOYEE of the T-Mobile store, 4809 W. Irving Park Road, reported that property was stolen from the business at about 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 27-year-old man reported that two men walked inside, took two iPhones valued at $1,800 from the display and ran away, according to police.
Both men were described as black and age 25 to 30. One man was further described as 5-6 to 6-0 and wearing a black skullcap and a puffy green-and-orange jacket. The other man was described as wearing a dark-colored top and dark jeans.
In a similar incident, theft was reported at the T-Mobile store, 6342 N. Cicero Ave., at 1:15 p.m. that same day, police said. Employees reported that two black men age 20 to 25 entered the store, pulled three iPhones valued at $2,500 from the display and ran off, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5500 block of North Long Avenue was burglarized between 10 a.m. and 9:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 36-year-old woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that a side door had been forced open and that two designer purses valued at $2,700 and $200 in cash were missing, according to police.

THE OWNER of PJS Excavating, Sewer and Water, 6649 N. Oliphant Ave., reported that storage facilities were burglarized between 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, and 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 65-year-old man reported that he discovered a commercial shipping container containing tools had been opened, that the perimeter fence was found cut in two places by cutting tools, and that two tools and a gas tank used for cutting tools were left behind, according to police. The man reported that two camera systems valued at $15,900 total, a pipe locating device valued at $1,800, two sewer rods valued at $5,800, a welder and cables valued at $3,000, a welding torch and hoses and gages valued at $1,100, and various other tools including a coring machine and a concrete saw valued $3,500 total were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her purse was stolen at about 4:50 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, at the Taqueria Amigo Chino restaurant, 5601 W. Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 32-year-old woman reported that a man grabbed her purse containing various debit, credit and identification cards and $300 in cash, and that her husband chased and then lost the man as he ran away from the restaurant, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 15 to 16, approximately 5-4, with black afro-style hair, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and green sweatpants.

SEVERAL car thefts were reported between 12:55 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, and 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 6100 and 5000 blocks of West Roscoe Street, the 3800 block of North Pioneer Avenue, the 5000 block of West Grace Street, a parking lot in the 7300 block of West Talcott Avenue, and two from a commercial parking lot in the 4800 block of West Lawrence Avenue.

A WOMAN reported that she saw two men stealing her vehicle’s catalytic converter at about 6 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, in the 5500 block of West Cullom Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that her vehicle’s alarm woke her up and that she looked outside and saw two black males, with one serving as a look-out and another underneath her car with a saw, and that they fled with the converter in a silver four-door sedan that appeared to be a Honda or a Nissan after she yelled out of the window, according to police.
Additional thefts of catalytic converters were also reported between noon Monday, Dec. 25, and 8 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, according to police. Two were reported in the 3900 block of North Melvina Avenue and one in the 5500 block of West Pensacola Avenue, police said.

THEFTS OF tires from Honda Accords were reported between 2:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 4800 block of North Linder Avenue, the 5700 block of North Manton Avenue, and the 5900 block of West Waveland Avenue, according to police. In each incident, all four tires were removed from a 2016 or 2017 Honda Accord and the vehicles were placed on cinderblocks or bricks, police said.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5900 block of North Ottawa Avenue was burglarized between 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, and 2:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 51-year-old man reported that when he returned home he discovered that he first floor window had been pried open and that numerous pieces of jewelry and $4,700 in cash were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 4700 block of North LaPorte Avenue was burglarized between 11 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25, and 6 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 46-year-old man reported that when he returned to the garage he discovered that the service door had been kicked in, and that a bicycle valued at $1,000 and a toolbox containing about 50 miscellaneous tools valued at $1,500 were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 5600 block of West Cornelia Avenue was burglarized between 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, and 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 63-year-old man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the garage door and frame had been opened and damaged and that an air compressor tool valued at $180, a lighter box valued at $170, and tools valued at $1,330 were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5500 block of North Long Avenue was burglarized between 10 a.m. and 9:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 36-year-old woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that a side door had been forced open and that two designer purses valued at $2,700 and $200 in cash were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6200 block of West Addison Street was burglarized between 2:30 and 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 70-year-old man reported that he returned home to discover the rear door forced open with a damaged frame and the master bedroom ransacked, and that numerous pieces of jewelry including two watches and a wedding band were missing, according to police.
