Local Crime from 16th District 1-4-17
SHOTS were fired at the Village Tavern building, 6912 W. Belmont Ave., at about 2 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 23-year-old man reported that after an argument with four men, one of them threatened to "shoot up the place" and punched him in the face before leaving, according to police. Witnesses reported that someone in a passing sport utility vehicle fired a gun at the bar, and a bullet struck a window of an insurance business in the 6900 block of Belmont, police said. A vehicle that was parked in front of the tavern had a bullet hole in a door, police said.
A MAN AND a teenager were placed into custody after they allegedly robbed a man at about 6:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, in the 3400 block of North Narragansett Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 36-year-old man reported that the two approached him and that one of them threatened him with a knife, took his cell phone and they punched him in the face several times, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Ezra Neal, age 19, of the 3400 block of Narragansett and a 15-year-old male.
A WOMAN reported that a woman set her car on fire at about 1 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, while it was parked in the 5500 block of North Parkside Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she saw a woman throw an unknown object on the roof of her 2013 Hyundai Elantra and the car caught fire, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly attacked an officer at about 2:35 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1, in the 6700 block of North Northwest Highway, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers were monitoring people leaving bars, and a man who appeared to be intoxicated struck the passenger window of the squad car several times, according to police. The man was told to leave, but he returned minutes later and punched one of the officers in the chest when they got out of their vehicle, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Ciaran G. McFadden, age 36, of the 4800 block of North Ozark Avenue, Norridge.
SHOTS were reported at about 1:55 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1, in the 3300 block of North Nottingham Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A reported that he heard shots fired and saw a silver sedan speeding on the street, and officers discovered two shell casings on the street and a bullet hole in a house on Nottingham, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked by a group of men at about 5:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, in the 6000 block of North Northwest Highway, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that after he left a "key bar" on Northwest Highway, a group of four to five men punched and kicked him and knocked him to the ground, according to police.
BREAK-INS in which surveillance videos show a man throw an object through a window were reported at two businesses, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A cash register containing $100 was reported stolen from White Star Cleaners, 5401 W. Montrose Ave., at about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, and a register containing $200 was reported stolen from Bana Salon and Spa, 5627 N. Central Ave., at about 11:50 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his van was burglarized between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, while it was parked in the 4100 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that two bags containing tools valued at $2,000, two containers containing saws valued at $1,000 and headphones valued at $120 were missing, according to police.
A CARE GIVER reported that a man broke into an elderly woman’s home in the 4900 block of West Sunnyside Avenue at about 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 50-year-old woman reported that she had double-parked her car and helped an 86-year-old woman into her home and that after she re-parked her car she discovered a man inside the home who said that the elderly woman owed him money and fled and that they discovered that $300 was missing, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested on theft charges at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, in the 6200 block of West Waveland Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers who responded to a report of a man taking items from cars stopped a man who matched the description that was provided in the 5900 block of West Waveland Avenue, and a witness reported that she saw the man enter a vehicle and place several items into a backpack, according to police. The owner of the vehicle reported that four cell phones, a bottle of whiskey, $83 in cash, $30 in coins and 43 hydrocodone pills were missing from his car, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Jose L. Gonzalez, age 23, of the 6000 block of West Melrose Street.
THEFTS of vehicles were reported between Dec. 28 and Jan 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 6400 and 6500 blocks of West Belmont Avenue, the 3200 block of North Menard Avenue, the 3700 block of North Octavia Avenue, the 5100 block of West Henderson Street, the 4800 block of West Ainslie Street and the 6500 block of West Balmoral Avenue, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5100 block of West Winona Avenue was burglarized between 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that a laptop computer was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was the victim of a scam between March 4 and Dec. 29, at a psychic and tarot card reading business in the 4900 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 34-year-old woman reported that she paid a psychic $8,000 to take care of "evil spirits" and $10,000 to cure her mother’s ailment, according to police. The woman reported that she later came to believe that she had been scammed, according to police.
THE OWNER of the Union Group of Illinois medical marijuana dispensary, 6428 N. Milwaukee Avenue, reported on Jan. 1 that a man broke the front window with a metal object at about 4 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A surveillance video shows a group of four men walking by and that one of them threw the pipe through the window and the group fled, police said. The owner reported that the business was not entered, according to police.
