Local Crime from 16th District 10-10-18
A MAN WAS charged with unlawful possession of a handgun following his arrest at about 11:55 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in the 4900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a report of a man with a handgun near the Jefferson Park CTA Transit Center, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., and saw a man matching a description sitting down and rolling a cigarette next to the Jefferson Park Grill, 5364 W. Gale St., according to police. Officers said that when they made eye contact with the man he walked toward them and they saw what appeared to be a large object concealed inside his clothing and stopped him in front of Quick-Cuts Family Hair Care, 4931 N. Milwaukee Ave., for a pat down, police said.
The officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana and the man was arrested after they discovered a plastic bag containing a substance suspected of being marijuana and a Smith and Wesson .38-caliber blue steel revolver loaded with six live rounds in his clothing, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Gregory E. Freeman, age 49, of the 3800 block of North Cicero Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly shoplifted items from the Jewel-Osco store, 7342 W. Foster Ave., at about 9:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that he saw two men and a woman pushing a shopping cart filled with groceries, household items and over the counter medicines, and that they left the cart near the customer service aisle and exited the store, according to police.
The employee reported that he saw one of the men re-enter the store and place several packages of medication and razor blades valued at $549 inside a plastic bag and leave the store without paying for the police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Michael J. Curtin, age 31, of the 8600 block of West Carmen Avenue, Norridge.
The second man was described as black and the woman was described as white.
AN UBER driver reported that two teenagers robbed him at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, in the 6100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 26-year-old Uber driver reported that while he was picking up two customers, they changed the destination of their trip and after he told them he was going home instead, they punched him multiple times in the face and took his cell phone, according to police.
The teenagers were described as white, age 16 to 19.
AN UBER driver reported that two men and a woman robbed him at about 11:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in the 3400 block of North Oriole Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 35-year-old Uber driver reported that while he was transporting a man and a woman to their location, he let them use his iPhone charger, and that when he arrived at their home, they refused give the charger back to him, exited the vehicle and fled eastbound on West Roscoe Street, according to police.
The man reported that the man and woman returned with a third man and confronted him about the charger, and that the woman entered the rear of his vehicle and poured a liquid on the back seat, while one of the men spit in his face and punched him while the other man kicked the outside passenger side of his vehicle before they all fled, police said.
The men and woman were described as white and about age 20.
A MAN REPORTED that a man stole his vehicle at about 4:25 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, while it was parked in the 3800 block of North Cumberland Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was walking his dog while his silver 2008 Toyota Matrix automobile was warming up with the key inside the ignition, and that he saw a man exit a white sport utility vehicle, enter his vehicle and drive away northbound, and then make a U-turn to drive away southbound, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of Kordian’s Market, 6332 W. Higgins Ave., reported that the business was robbed at about 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man approached the register to purchase a can of soda, and that when the drawer opened he took $200 in cash before he exited the store and drove away in a black pickup truck, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 50 to 60, between 5-6 and 5-8 and between 150 and 170 pounds with gray hair.
A MAN REPORTED that a man attempted to steal his vehicle at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the 4200 block of North Melvina Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he left his vehicle unattended and running with the key in the ignition, and when he returned, he saw a man sitting in the driver’s seat with the gear shifted to reverse, and that the man said he thought the vehicle was his, according to police.
The man reported that he pushed the man inside his vehicle and that he exited the front passenger side door and ran away south in an alley in the 4100 block of North Melvina Avenue, and that he later discovered that his Samsung Galaxy Note 9 cell phone valued at $1,300 was missing from inside the vehicle, police said.
The man was described as white, age 27, 5-7 and 165 pounds, with long blond hair and wearing a hooded jacket.
A WOMAN reported that her locker was burglarized at XSport Fitness Center, 5515 W. Irving Park Road, between 8:20 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her locker she discovered that the lock was missing and that her white gold diamond engagement ring valued at $4,000, a cosmetic bag valued at $5 and a wallet containing $20 in cash, a debit card, identification cards and a marriage license were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her home in the 4900 block of West Henderson Avenue was burglarized between 6:30 a.m. and 6:50 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her garage she discovered that the side door had been broken and that a ladder valued at $500, outdoor furniture valued at $500, tools valued at $400, house siding valued at $300 and a lawn mower valued at $250 were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL incidents of stolen wheels from vehicles were reported between Oct. 2 and Oct. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen wheels were reported in the 4000 block of North Menard Avenue, the 5200 block of West Berteau Avenue, the 4300 block of North Melvina Avenue, the 4900 block of North Mason Avenue, the 5300 block of North East River Road, the 5500 block of North Austin Avenue, the 3300 block of North Lavergne Avenue, the 5600 block of West Henderson Street, the 4900 block of West School Street, the 8400 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue and the 5200 block of North Delphia Avenue, according to police.
