Local Crime from 16th District 10-12-2016
A MAN WAS arrested in connection with the armed robbery of the EZ Pawn shop, 5454 W. Belmont Ave., that occurred at about 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 47-year-old employee and witnesses reported that three men entered the store wearing hooded sweatshirts, used sledgehammers to break glass containers and placed jewelry into bags, according to police. The employee reported that when he confronted the men, one of them struck him, causing a laceration to his forehead, police said.
Officers chased a vehicle that the employee described, and when it stopped at School Street and Long Avenue three men fled in different directions and the driver was placed into custody, according to police. Officers discovered jewelry taken from the shop, and the employee reported that the man likely was the getaway driver because he didn’t see him in the store, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Aaron L. Williams, age 24, of the 200 block of North Myrtle Avenue, Kankakee.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that the Shell gas station, 6400 W. Belmont Ave., was robbed at gunpoint at about 7:55 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man entered the store, showed the butt of a gun, and took $500 and five packs of cigarettes, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 1:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in the 4300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 50-year-old man reported that two men approached him and one of them struck him on the head with a bottle and the two punched and kicked him, according to police. The man said that when he fell to the ground they took his cell phone, his wallet and a six-pack of beer.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in the 4900 block of West Newport Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 29-year-old man reported that as he was parking his car after returning home from a date with a woman he met on Facebook, and a struck him on the head with a handgun, took $2,600 from him and fled, according to police. The man said that the woman knew that he had a lot of money with him because he just got paid, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the 5600 block of North Elston Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 20-year-old man reported that as he was getting out of his car, two men approached him and one of them displayed a handgun and took a camera valued at $500, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly threatening a woman with an axe at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, in the 5500 block of North Marmora Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 42-year-old woman reported that a man who was doing work for her at her home threatened to cut her head off with an axe, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Steven Zoldowski, age 52, address unknown.
A TEENAGER was arrested on drug charges at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in the 5600 block of West Higgins Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers who responded to a report of shots fired stopped a vehicle that matched the description that was provided, and the driver was arrested after he had no driver’s license or insurance, according to police. Officers discovered two replica handguns and 28 bags of a substance suspected of being marijuana in the vehicle, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as a 17-year-old male.
