Local Crime from 16th District 10-24-18

A MAN REPORTED that a bullet went through the patio glass door of his apartment in the 5700 block of West Lawrence Avenue at about 8:05 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, striking a mirror above a couch, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was at home with two young children when the shooting occurred, according to police. Officers found five spent shell casings outside of the building, police said.
The man reported that he has no enemies and does not know who would have fired the gunshots, police said.
Shots were fired at about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the 4800 block of West Ainslie Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he was awakened by gunshots and that he discovered a bullet hole through the outer building paneling, two bullet holes in the front door and bullet fragments lodged in a wall, in a bedroom ceiling and a bullet fragment that landed on his daughter’s bed as she was sleeping, according to police.
No injuries were reported, and officers recovered two spent 9mm bullet casings on the sidewalk, police said.

SHOTS WERE fired at about 12:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, in an alley in the 6500 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he heard about seven gunshots and he later discovered that there were two bullet holes in his garage door and another bullet hole in the side mirror of his Chrysler van that was parked in the garage, according to police. Officers recovered five spent .45-caliber bullet casings in the alley and discovered three additional bullet holes in the garage doors of two other units, police said.

A WOMAN REPORTED that her car was damaged by bullets between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, while it was parked in the 5900 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her parked sport utility vehicle she discovered that a bullet hole was in her drivers’ side door, and that she did not hear any loud or unusual noises while she was home, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked with a baseball bat at about 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Irving Hotel, 4849 W. Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 48-year-old man reported that he was in the lobby when a man approached him unprovoked and struck him in the forearm with a baseball bat before the armed man fled the hotel through a rear door, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 60 to 65, approximately 5-10 and 200 pounds, with brown eyes, bald hair and a dark skin complexion.
In related news, an employee reported that she was threatened at knifepoint in the hotel at about 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, police said.
The employee reported that a male resident, who was allegedly going to be evicted soon, said that the power was off in his room, and that when she went to check she discovered that electricity was on and the man pointed a pocket knife at her and threatened her, according to police.
The man was described as white and age 39.

A GIRL WAS arrested for allegedly threatening two students with a knife at about 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Dever School, 3436 N. Osceloa Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Employees reported that they recovered a knife from a student after she allegedly held a knife to the chest of two boys, while a student witnessed the incident and reported that the girl was laughing as she pointed the knife at the boys, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as a 12-year-old female.

A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 6:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in the 5200 block of West Berteau Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 56-year-old man reported that he was walking his dog when a man approached from between parked cars and said, "What’s up? You got any money?" and that a second man approached from behind and punched him in the face before the men took $120 in cash from his wallet and ran away, according to police.
The men were described as white/Hispanic.

A FAMILY reported that their neighbors’ home in the 6100 block of West Warwick Avenue was burglarized at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A woman and two men reported that their neighbors were on vacation and that they called police after they saw two unknown men walking around their neighbors’ home before the men drove away west on Warwick in a blue vehicle, possibly a BMW, according to police. Officers discovered that the rear basement door was forced open and numerous bedroom drawers were ransacked, and it was unclear what proceeds were missing at the time of report, police said.
The men were described as black and age 25 to 30.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5100 block of North Melvina Avenue was burglarized between 11 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that graffiti had been written on the walls and some of the walls were demolished, and she reported that the entire contents of her home, including furniture, televisions, a computer, clothing, kitchenware, food, shelving, personal papers, keys and luggage were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6800 block of West Strong Street was burglarized between 10 a.m. and 8:10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that his front door had been opened and that 9mm handgun, 100 rounds of ammunition and 30 collector coins were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that a house in the 4500 block of North Merrimac Avenue was burglarized between 8:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, and 10:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the newly-remodeled and unoccupied house to move in he discovered that the basement door was open with a broken door frame and water leaking on the kitchen floor, and that a gas stove valued at $1,200, a refrigerator valued at $2,000, a dishwasher valued at $1,000, a washing machine valued at $1,000 and a dryer valued at $1,000 were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4500 block of North Monitor Avenue was burglarized between 1:30 and 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear gate and a rear door screen window were opened and that three platinum and diamond rings valued at $42,000, four pairs of diamond earrings valued at $2,000, two yellow necklaces valued at $1,300, a yellow ring valued at $700, four watches valued at $1,900 and three laptop computers valued at $2,200 were missing, according to police.

SEVERAL burglaries to vehicles were reported between Oct. 12 and 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicles were reported burglarized in the 6100 block of West Irving Park Road, the 3200 block of North Nordica Avenue, the 3700 block of North Meade Avenue, the 5300 block of North Lieb Avenue, the 6200 block of West Huntington Street and the 6900 block of North Chicora Avenue, according to police.

SEVERAL thefts of vehicles were reported between Oct. 15 and 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicles were reported stolen in the 3500 block of North Neva Avenue, the 5600 block of North Miltimore Avenue and the 6100 block of North Avondale Avenue, according to police.
