Local Crime from 16th District 10-9-13
A MAN REPORTED that a man fired a gun at his vehicle at about 5:25 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, as he was driving in the 4700 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 30-year-old man reported that a van drove alongside him and an occupant fired two shots at his vehicle, shattering the driver’s-side and rear windows, according to police.
The man was described a white/Hispanic and age 25 to 30. His vehicle was described as white Chevrolet Astrovan.
A MAN WAS arrested on drug charges at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in the 5900 block of North Northwest Highway, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers executed a search warrant at the home, and as they were placing the man into custody, a woman prevented the officers from closing the door to a squad car and another woman stood in front of the car, and they were arrested as well, according to police. Officers found a scale with residue from a substance suspected of being crack cocaine in the home, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Eduardo Cruz, age 23, of the Northwest Highway address, Kelly L. James, age 43, of the 8300 block of North Caldwell Avenue, Niles, and Sarah R. Gronek, age 20, also of the 5900 block of North Northwest Highway.
A MAN WAS arrested on charges of attempted theft and possession of burglary tools at about 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the 5300 block of North Manila Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers who were conducting a mission due to catalytic converter thefts in the area saw a man walking away from a parked van who dropped an item in the 5300 block of North Northwest Highway, according to police. The man had latex gloves in his pocket, a screwdriver was found on Northwest Highway, and the van had pry marks, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Marcos A. Rivera, age 25, of the 5000 block of West Ainslie Street.
A MAN REPORTED that he was injured when a man threw a bottle at his car at about 2 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, as he was driving in the 7400 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 21-year-old man reported that he suffered cuts to the face and the shoulder when a man threw a glass bottle at his car and shattered the passenger-side window, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, in an alley in the 5100 block of West Hutchinson Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 66-year-old man reported that when he got out of his car to close the door of a vehicle that was blocking the alley, a man grabbed him by the neck and displayed a handgun and a second man took $5 to $15 from his wallet, a gold chain valued at $1,000 and a bracelet valued at $500, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the 5800 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 28-year-old man reported that a man pointed a gun at him and took his wallet containing credit cards, according to police.

The 46-year-old man reported that as he was placing his daughter into a car seat in the CVS parking lot, a man put an object against his back and took his iPhone and his wallet containing $40, police said.
A MAN FATALLY shot himself at about 5:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Bunker Hill Forest Preserve near the 6700 block of North Caldwell Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man called police saying that he was in the forest preserve near the washrooms with a gun, and responding officers heard a gunshot when they arrived at the forest preserve and discovered the man’s body with a gunshot wound to the head and the weapon, according to police. Officers found an unsent text message on the man’s cell phone apologizing for his actions, police said.
The man was identified by police as Daniel J. Borowsky, age 24, of the 1500 block of West Touhy Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that two men attempted to break into her home in the 5200 block of West Roscoe Street at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 60-year-old woman reported that she heard a noise at the rear door and discovered that two men carrying a crowbar were trying to break into the home, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4800 block of North Neva Avenue was burglarized between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a window was open and that $20,000 worth of jewelry was missing, according to police.
