Local Crime from 16th District 11-6-13
EMPLOYEES and patrons of Galvin’s Public House, 5901 W. Lawrence Ave., reported that a man attempted to rob them at about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 44-year-old employee reported that the man pulled open his jacket to reveal a sawed-off shotgun and handed her a note demanding money and threatening to "kill everybody in here" if his demands were not met, but that the man became nervous and fled, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 22 to 25, 5-8 to 5-10 and 175 to 185 pounds, and wearing a green hooded sweatshirt.
TWO MEN were arrested on after they allegedly fought with officers who were breaking up a fight at Dunham Park, 4638 N. Melvina Ave., at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
When an officer told a man to put his hands on a squad car, the man pushed the officer and attacked him while a second man shouted obscenities and bit an officer in the leg, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Juan A. Perez, age 27, of the 2800 block of North 77th Avenue, Elmwood Park, and Giovanni Zetina, age 20, of the 5700 block of North Kimball Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested on drug charges at about 1:35 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, in the 5700 block of West Patterson Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers investigating a report of drugs being sold from a vehicle at Marmora and Monitor avenues obtained a license plate number, according to police. The suspect’s car was stopped on Patterson and the man was arrested after officers found three marijuana cigarettes in the ashtray and a scale and 441 grams of a substance suspected of being marijuana in the trunk of the car, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Joseph R. Goldberg, age 21, of the 5600 block of West Patterson Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested after another man reported that he threatened him with a knife at about 12:35 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in the 5600 block of West Warwick Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An 18-year-old man reported that the other man threatened to stab him during an argument, according to police. Officers found a knife in the suspect’s possession, and he was arrested, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Andre D. Scardina, age 18, of the 2900 block of North Springfield Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that she was sexually assaulted at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in the 8300 block of West Summerdale Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 44-year-old woman reported that she called a cab when she left a party from Park Ridge and that she fell asleep in the 303 Taxicab on the way home, according to police. The woman said that when she woke up the driver was sexually assaulting her in the back seat, and that she pushed him off and the man got into the front seat and she escaped as he was driving away, police said.
A TEENAGER reported that she was shot with a BB pellet at about 4:35 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in the 3200 block of North Leclaire Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 17-year-old girl reported that she was near Foreman High School and a friend said that someone was going to shoot her, and that a teenager got out of a car driven by a second teen and shot her with a BB gun, causing an injury under her eye, according to police.
Two suspects were later arrested at their homes, and they were identified by police as 17-year-old males.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the 3900 block of North Nottingham Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 18-year-old man reported that as he was walking with a 17-year-old girl, six men in a sport utility vehicle shouted at them and a man got out and displayed a knife, that a second man threatened to shoot them, and that the first man took his hooded sweatshirt, according to police.
A TEENAGER reported that she was robbed at about 2:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in the 5100 block of West Warwick Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 17-year-old teen reported that two men knocked her to the ground and took her laptop computer and her iPod, according to police.
TWO STUDENTS were placed into custody at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Taft High School, 6530 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., after they posted messages on Facebook saying that they would shoot up the school, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Three students allegedly posted images on their Facebook pages of a semi-automatic rifle and a magazine, according to police. Officers later determined that the gun was a replica BB gun, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as 16-year-old male and a 15-year-old male. The third suspect was listed on a police report as a 17-year-old male.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6100 block of West Henderson Street was burglarized between 8:20 a.m. and 9:35 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the kitchen window had been forced open and that a watch valued at $700 was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6000 block of West Cornelia Avenue was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that a window was unlocked and that $5,000 worth of jewelry was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her home in the 6200 block of West School Street was burglarized between 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, and 12:35 p.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she discovered that the garage door was open and that a bicycle valued at $1,200 was missing, according to police.
