Local Crime from 16th District 11-9-13
A 9-YEAR-OLD Portage Park School student reported that a man forced him into a van at about 3:40 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in the 5100 block of West Berteau Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The boy’s 29-year-old mother reported that she contacted the school after her son did not arrive home on time, and officers found the boy in an alley in the 4100 block of North Dickinson Avenue, according to police. A man reported that he discovered the boy lying between two garbage cans without any shoes on, police said. The boy was treated at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, police said.
The boy reported that a black cargo van pulled up next to him and a man got out of the van, grabbed him and threw him into the back of the van, according to police. The boy said that when he shouted for help, the man stopped the van and struck him on the chest with a baseball bat, and that he lost consciousness, police said.
The man was described as white/Hispanic with black hair, and wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly robbed TCF Bank, 4930 N. Milwaukee Ave., at about 11:25 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 24-year-old teller reported that a man opened a duffel bag that contained a rifle and demanded money, and that she gave him about $8,000 in cash and a global positioning system device, according to police. After the device was activated in the 4900 block of West Lawrence Avenue, officers found the suspect with the stolen cash, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Brandyn C. Falconer, age 36, of the 1000 block of North Lawndale Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly attempted to rob a man at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, in the 4200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 46-year-old man reported that as he was sitting in his car, a man approached, said that he had a knife and demanded his cell phone and money, but that the man fled when he said that he would call police, according to police. The suspect was arrested in the 4100 block of North Dickinson Avenue based on the description that was provided, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Michael Martinelli, age 22, of the 4800 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in the 3600 block of North Major Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 55-year-old woman reported that two men pushed her to the ground and took her purse containing credit cards, a debit card, her driver’s license and $70 in cash, according to police.
EMPLOYEES reported that the Family Dollar store, 5255 N. Milwaukee Ave., was robbed at about 3:25 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 26-year-old employee reported that a man approached the counter, displayed a handgun and took $98 from the cash register, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 25 to 30, 5-8 to 5-9 and 260 to 270 pounds, and wearing a black skullcap, a shiny black jacket, a big sweater and gray sweatpants.
