Local Crime from 16th District 12-12-18
A WOMAN reported that two men stole her vehicle at gunpoint at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the 4100 block of North Mango Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 68-year-old woman reported that after she dropped off a friend, she saw a vehicle driving in front of her silver 2009 Hyundai Genesis and a vehicle driving closely behind her, and that the vehicle in front of her suddenly stopped and two men wearing black ski masks exited the vehicle and one of the men approached her vehicle, knocked on her driver’s side window with a handgun and demanded her to open the doors, according to police.
The woman reported that after she unlocked the doors, the man with the gun opened the driver’s side door and pulled her out of her vehicle, and that both men entered her vehicle and drove away, police said.
The man with the gun was described as about 5-11 and 200, the second man was described as about 5-2 and 60 pounds, and both men were described as wearing black ski masks.
A TEENAGER reported that a man threatened him with a knife at about 3:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the Jefferson Park CTA Blue Line station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 16-year-old teenager reported that a man approached him and asked his gang affiliation before the man pointed a pocket knife at him and said, "You want some of this," according to police.
The man was described as age 16 to 18, between 5-6 and 5-8, between 130 and 155 pounds, and wearing a black knit hat.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at gunpoint between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, inside his apartment in the 4800 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that three men wearing black ski masks knocked on his door, and that after he let them inside his apartment, one of the men pointed a handgun at his head and said, "I’ll shoot you if you don’t give me what I need," according to police. The man reported that the men took his 21-inch Toshiba flat screen television set, a Motorola cell phone and a wallet containing miscellaneous cards and $10 in cash, police said.
The men were described as between 5-8 and 5-10, between 180 and 210 pounds, and wearing black ski masks and gloves.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Hard Rock Smoke and Vape Shop, 4837 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that a man stole a chair from the business at about 2:25 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man entered the business and sat down at the bar to smoke, and that he picked up a black leather chair valued at $40 and fled, according to police.
The man was described as about age 26, between 5-7 and 5-8, between 140 and 150 pounds, and wearing a long black jacket, camouflage pants and a red knit hat.
A MAN WAS arrested for attempted arson at about 5:40 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the J.J. Peppers store, 3555 N. Central Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported at about 5 a.m. that he discovered that a garbage can was on fire outside on the north side of the business and that a store surveillance camera recorded video footage of a man who threw an object that was on fire inside the garbage can before a larger fire spread, according to police. The employee reported that he showed the video footage to officers and that firefighters extinguished the fire, police said.
The employee reported at about 5:40 a.m. that he discovered that the propane tanks outside in front of the store had been set on fire and that while he was speaking with the police at the scene, a man who matched a description from the video entered the store to purchase items and the officers arrested the man after he exited the store, police said.
The man was identified by police as Blake P. Brandenburg, age 57, of the 320 block of West Main Street, Laurel, Montana.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was stolen at about 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the 3300 block of North Newcastle Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 67-year-old man reported that he left his brown 2008 Chevrolet Impala running with the key inside the ignition while he entered a residence, and that a few minutes later, he saw his vehicle being driven away northbound, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was stolen between 5:55 a.m. and 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the 5300 block of West Newport Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he left his white 2017 Jeep Cherokee automobile running with the key inside the ignition, and that when he returned, his vehicle was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his residence in the 7000 block of West Melrose Street was burglarized between 7:20 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door had been forced open and that jewelry valued at $1,600 and a jewelry box were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, and 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the 3400 block of North Oconto Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her vehicle she discovered that an Apple Mac Book Air laptop computer valued at $1,000, clothing valued at $100 and a Burton backpack valued at $90 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the 8300 block of West Higgins Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that n Apple Mac Book Pro laptop computer valued at $2,000, two backpacks, clothing and a wallet containing credit cards and his driver’s license were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported between Dec. 4 and Dec. 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen vehicles were reported in the 8700 block of West Summerdale Avenue, the 6100 block of West Waveland Avenue, the 5500 block of North Central Avenue, the 5900 block of West Byron Street, the 6400 block of North Avondale Avenue, according to police.
SEVERAL package thefts were reported between Nov. 29 and Dec. 7, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen packages were reported in the 6500 block of West Addison Street, the 5300 block of West Newport Avenue, the 5300 block of West Cullom Avenue, the 3900 block of North Paris Avenue, the 5200 block of North Lind Avenue, the 8600 block of West Catherine Avenue and the 5400 block of East River Road, according to police.
