Local Crime from 16th District 12-16-15
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 4:50 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, in the parking lot of First Midwest Bank, 8501 W. Higgins Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 50-year-old man reported that after he got out of his car, two men punched him in the face, knocked him down to the ground and took his iPhone and a briefcase containing $150,000 in cash, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man threatened him with a gun at about 8:35 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, in the 3200 block of North Neenah Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 37-year-old man reported that a man who was standing next to a car waved for him to come near and that when he did the man pointed a gun at him, according to police. The man said that he ran to a nearby convenience store, police said.
FIREFIGHTERS put out a small fire at about 5:20 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, 4840 W. Byron St., and determined that the cause of the fire was arson, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Fire officials said that the fire was started by a rear window, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was stabbed during a robbery attempt at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in the 8100 block of West Balmoral Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 18-year-old man reported that he was with two friends, age 18 and 17, and that a man approached them, displayed a knife and demanded his wallet, according to police. The man said that he struggled with the man and that during the struggle he was stabbed in the back of the thigh, police said. The man was treated at Resurrection Hospital, police said.
A WOMAN reported that a man attempted to rob her at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, in the garage of her home in the 5300 block of West Dakin Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 69-year-old woman reported that after she opened her car door in her garage, a man implied that he had a gun and demanded her wallet, according to police. The woman said that she screamed and that the man fled, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested by officers who responded to a report of a suspicious man in a red sport utility vehicle that was parked on the wrong side of the street at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, in the 4700 block of North Lawler Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers discovered that the man was sleeping and found a .45 caliber handgun and a substance suspected of being marijuana in the vehicle, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Victor Winters, age 20, of the 2500 block of West 61st Street.
A POLICE OFFICER was attacked during a traffic stop at about 11:20 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, in the 5200 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A female officer was conducting a traffic stop, and when she told the driver to step out of the car, the driver allegedly shoved her hand in her face and knocked her glasses off, according to police. When the officer leaned inside the car to get the keys, the woman allegedly swung her arm at the officer and drove away, police said. The officer had to jump out of the vehicle to avoid being dragged, police said.
Officers pursed the vehicle until the chase was called off after it ran a red light at Peterson and Forest Glen avenues, according to police. Police have the drive’s identification, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4800 block of West Grace Street was burglarized at about 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that three laptop computers, a television set and an iPad were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5500 block of West Addison Street was burglarized between noon and 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that a laptop computer valued at $250 and a television set valued at $800 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4800 block of West Addison Street was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that a television set valued at $1,000, a sound bar valued at $400 and a laptop computer valued at $1,000 were missing, according to police.
A TEENAGER reported that his parents’ home in the 6000 block of West Higgins Avenue was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 17-year-old teen reported that when he returned home he discovered that the side door had been forced open and that three bracelets, a watch, a cell phone, three purses, three laptop computers, two tablets, two jugs containing change, necklaces and rings were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4900 block of North Marmora Avenue was burglarized between 10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, and 7:30 p.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that a bedroom window was open and that a handgun and rings valued at $13,000 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 4400 block of North Cicero Avenue was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the service door to the garage was open and that $850 worth of tools was missing, according to police.
THEFTS OF catalytic converters from vehicles were reported between Dec. 6 and Dec. 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 6000 block of West Byron Street, the 5100 block of West Berenice Avenue, the 5700 block of North Harlem Avenue, the 5700 block and the 5800 blocks of North Major Avenue, the 5200 block of West Winona Street and the 6100 block of North Mason Avenue, according to police.
Also, in the 5300 and 5400 blocks of North Ludlam Avenue, the 6600 block of West Hayes Avenue, the 5500 and 5600 blocks of North Mango Avenue, the 6100 block of North Moody Avenue, the 6600 block of West Schreiber Avenue and the 5800 block of West Peterson Avenue, according to police.
