Local Crime from 16th District 12-19-18
TWO MEN REPORTED that gunshots were fired at their vehicle at about 2:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in the 3200 block of North Sayre Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The men reported that they parked their Acura RSX when a black Nissan sedan parked in front of them and that the front passenger displayed a handgun and fired about seven gunshots as they sat in the Acura, according to police. Officers recovered four spent .45-caliber bullet casings on scene, and the front left tire and front bumper of the Acura were damaged by gunfire but no injuries were reported, police said.
The shooter was described as white/Hispanic, bald, and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt.
A MAN REPORTED that a man tried to rob him at about 9:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in the 5900 block of North Merrimac Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was moving groceries from his car to his home when a man approached and said "lay down and give me your money," and that he refused and ran to his rear door and the other man started hitting him with what appeared to be a plastic rifle, according to police.
The man reported that the fight continued into the rear vestibule of his building and then into his apartment, and that he heard a cracking noise during the altercation that may have been a gunshot, and that the man said "I am going to follow you from now on" before he left as another family member entered the apartment, police said. The man was transported to Lutheran General Hospital, according to police.
The assailant was described as age 30 to 35, possibly Hispanic, about 5-8 to 5-9 and 160 to 170 pounds, and wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a brown wig.
A WOMAN reported that her son was threatened at knifepoint at about 3:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the 4900 block of West Strong Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that a group of five men approached her son near a transit stop and asked what gang he was in before they chased him and a man displayed a knife and threw a rock at a window, according to police.
The armed man was described as white, age 20 to 23, approximately 5-7 and 130 pounds, with long black hair and light skin complexion. The other four men were described as white/Hispanic.
MORE THAN 15 catalytic converters were reported stolen from vehicles between 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 and 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 4900 block of North Mango Avenue, the 5300 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, the 5200 block of West Ainslie Street, the 4900 block of West Hutchinson Street, the 5600 block of West Grover Street, the 5000 block of West Dakin Street, the 5900 block of West Byron Street, the 5700 block of West Pensacola Avenue and the 3400 block of North Central Avenue, according to police.
Thefts were also reported in the 5500 block of West Berenice Avenue, the 4500 block of North Merrimac Avenue, the 4900 block of West Berteau Avenue, the 4300 block of North Mobile Avenue, the 4500 block of North Long Avenue, the 5200 block of West Roscoe Street, and the 5600 and 6000 blocks of West Lawrence Avenue, police said.
A WOMAN reported that her credit card was used Tuesday, Dec. 11, at multiple locations, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she applied for a credit card but never received it, and that her bank later notified her that on Dec. 11 there were purchases made with her card totaling $1929.36 at the Micro Center electronics store, 2645 N. Elston Ave., as well as charges totaling $73.04 at a Best Buy store, 555 W. Roosevelt Road, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Shell Gas station, 6400 W. Belmont Ave., reported that a man threatened him at about 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man attempted to purchase a cigar and he asked to see identification because he looked younger and that the man became angry, yelled at him to come outside and threatened to attack him, according to police.
