Local Crime from 16th District 12-25-13
A MAN WAS ARRESTED after he allegedly attempted to break into a home in the 6300 block of West Montrose Avenue at about 5:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 57-year-old man reported that a man rang his doorbell but that he did not answer because he didn’t recognize the man, and that the man attempted to open his garage and then tried to break into the basement, according to police. The resident said that the man fled when he confronted him, and the suspect was arrested later based on the description he provided, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Gary L. Sanders, age 43, of the 400 block of West Touhy Avenue, Des Plaines.
A WOMAN reported that her car was stolen from the garage of her home in the 5400 block of North East River Road between 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, and 9:30 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported the she discovered that her gray 2000 GMC van was missing from the garage, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that a man attempted to rob the Subway restaurant, 5050 N. Cicero Ave., at about 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 31-year-old man reported that a man entered the store and demanded that he open the cash register, but that the man fled when he refused, according to police.
THE OWNER OF the Outlet Store, 5402 N. Elston Ave., reported that the business was burglarized at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the front glass door was broken and that $360 in cash was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that two men broke into her home in the 5500 block of West Henderson Street at about 12:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 40-year-old woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the back door had been forced open and that when she the home two men fled out the front door, according to police. The woman said that a facsimile and printer machine valued at $550 and a digital videodisc player valued at $175 were missing, police said.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue was burglarized between 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door to her apartment had been forced open and that a 38-inch television set was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6400 block of North Nokomis Avenue was burglarized at about 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a pearl necklace valued at $1,500, earrings valued at $300 and a diamond necklace valued at $1,500 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5600 block of West Grace Street was burglarized at about 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the side door was open and that a Play Station video game console, a Nintendo Wii video game console and $800 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a catalytic converter was stolen from his 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee between 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, and 12:30 p.m. the following day, while it was parked in the 5300 block of West Warner Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A WOMAN reported that a catalytic converter was stolen from her 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier between 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, and 7:30 a.m. the following day, while it was parked in the 4000 block of North Leamington Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A WOMAN reported that a catalytic converter was stolen from her 2006 Lexus at about 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, while it was parked in the 4000 block of North Lavergne Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 5400 block of North Parkside Avenue was burglarized between noon Saturday, Dec. 14, and 11:50 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that a bass guitar, amplifiers, boxes and a compressor valued at a total of $2,000 were missing from the garage, according to police.
