Local Crime from 16th District 2-1-17
A MAN WAS shot at about 4:10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, in the 3500 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 19-year-old man reported at Community First Medical Center that as he was driving north on Laramie, he passed a vehicle containing two men who exchanged words with him and a passenger fired several shots, striking him in the abdomen, according to police. The man was transferred to Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that Miska’s Discount Liquors, 8227 W. Irving Park Road, was robbed at gunpoint at about 7:05 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 30-year-old man reported that two men entered the store with their faces covered and one of them displayed a handgun and the two took $1,500 from the cash register, four bottles of alcohol, a cell phone and six packs of cigarettes, according to police.
A MAN AND a teenager were arrested after they allegedly attempted to break into a home in the 5100 block of West Melrose Street at about 12:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers on patrol saw two people looking into the rears of homes and saw one of them attempt to open a window while the other stood watching, according to police. The teenager was placed into custody at the scene and the man fled to a nearby home where he was arrested, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Joshua Reed, age 21, of the 1500 block of North Latrobe Avenue, and a 17-year-old male.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 5:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the 7900 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 20-year-old man reported that three men wearing ski masks approached him and one of them shouted gang slogans and took his jacket and his wallet containing $10 and one of the men punched him in the face, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 9:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, in the 3500 block of North Natoma Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 61-year-old woman reported that a man took her purse containing $20 and pushed her to the ground, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that two men threatened her at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, in the 5900 block of West Touhy Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 31-year-old woman reported that a man wearing only red boxers approached her from behind with a baseball bat and that he and another man threatened her, according to police.
THE FORMER Saint Cornelius School building, 5252 N. Long Ave., was vandalized between 8 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Pieces were removed from a bathroom window on the outside of the building, and there was racial and anti-Semitic graffiti in the hallways and in classrooms on the second floor, according to police. Fifteen computers were damaged, and officers found alcohol bottles and candy that had been left behind, police said.
A 17-YEAR-OLD teen reported that a man took $100 from her back pocket at about 1:05 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, as she was walking in the 4000 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4900 block of West Gunnison Street was burglarized between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that six watches valued at $6,000, bracelets, rings and necklaces valued at $10,000, an engagement ring valued at $4,000, two purses valued at $500, keys, social security cards and $3,150 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6500 block of West Montrose Avenue was burglarized between 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that a ring valued at $3,400, 25 watches valued at $7,000 and a diamond cross were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6100 block of North Prescott Avenue was burglarized between 3:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, and 4:55 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she discovered that the rear door had been forced opened and that a diamond ring valued at $1,400, earrings valued at $1,770, a ring valued at $3,800, a ring valued at $7,000 and a gold bracelet valued at $6,000 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5400 block of North Mulligan Avenue was burglarized between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the side door had been forced open and that a laptop computer valued at $1,500, five watches valued at $200 and chips from a casino valued at $500 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6700 block of North Dakin Street was burglarized at about 3:05 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the side door had been opened and that a Dell personal computer and a Morkie puppy were missing, according to police.
THEFTS of vehicles were reported between Jan. 25 and 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 5100 block of West Cornelia Avenue, the 5000 block of West Ainslie Street, the 5100 block of West Winona Street, the 3400 block of North Natchez Avenue and the 3200 block of North Harlem Avenue, according to police.
Also, in the 4800 and 5000 blocks of West Henderson Street, the 5700 block of West Warwick Avenue, the 5200 block of West Berenice Avenue, the 5900 block of West Waveland Avenue and the 5100 block of West School Street, police said.
