Local Crime from 16th District 3-5-14
A COUPLE reported that they were the victims of a scam at their home in the 6300 block of West Cuyler Avenue on Thursday, Feb. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 78-year-old man reported that he received about 30 calls on his landline and about 50 calls on his cell phone and that when he answered, a woman who he thought was his niece told him that his cousin had struck a woman and that she needed $12,000 to get him out of jail, according to police. The couple reported that they withdrew $5,000 in cash and that a man came to the home and picked up the money, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her estranged husband attacked her, sexually assaulted her and broke into their home between Feb. 26 and March 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 43-year-old woman reported that she told her husband to move out of the home and that at about 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, he grabbed her by the throat and threw her against a kitchen counter, causing her to hit her face, according to police. The woman reported that the man allegedly sexually assaulted her at about 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, and that he broke into the home on March 1 and March 2, causing major damage, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly threatened a man with a gun at about 2:50 a.m. Saturday, March 1, in the 5000 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 30-year-old man reported that a car followed him as he was driving with a 19-year-old woman, and that when he stopped in the 5000 block of West Irving Park Road, the driver of the car stopped next to them and pointed a gun at him, according to police. The man said that he followed the man and that he called police after he saw him enter a restaurant, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Drew Duarte, age 49, of the 4200 block of West Irving Park Road.
A TEENAGER reported that he two men attempted to rob him at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, in the 3300 block of North Long Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 15-year-old old teen reported that two men approached him and that one of them displayed a handgun and demanded his belongings, according to police. The teen said that when he told the two that he did not have any money, one of them tried to punch him in the stomach but he blocked the punch, police said.
A MAN AND a woman were charged with possession of stolen property following their arrest at about 10:55 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the 5400 block of West Wilson Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
After officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, they discovered that a milk crate containing several computer hard drives, cell phones, sound equipment and other computer items was in the vehicle, according to police. The officers were aware of recent thefts of United Parcel Service boxes, and the two were arrested after they gave conflicting stories about the items, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Pawel Budzinski, age 34, of the 4900 block of North Merrimac Avenue, and Tatiana Yashina, age 25, of the 5400 block of West Windsor Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested on drug charges at about noon Thursday, Feb. 27, in the 5300 block of West Foster Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers who were conducting a burglary mission saw a man in an alley who fled when he saw them, according to police. Officers caught the man and found that he had 5 grams of a substance suspected of being marijuana in his backpack, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Christopher Nieminski, age 21, of the 5300 block of North Central Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the 6600 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 21-year-old man reported that after he got off a bus, two men forced him into a gangway, and that one of the men displayed a handgun and took his cell phone and his wallet, according to police.
A CHICAGO Transit Authority bus driver reported that he was attacked at about 4:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, in the 5300 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 51-year-old man reported that while he was driving a bus, a passenger asked him questions and that when he told her to sit down, she punched him in the face, causing an injury to his right eye, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6300 block of West Berteau Avenue was burglarized between 7:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that jewelry and $500 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4900 block of West Carmen Avenue was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door had been forced open and that a jewelry box containing six silver Tiffany pieces and a gold diamond earring was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4400 block of North Laporte Avenue was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door had been forced open and that a jewelry box containing jewelry was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3400 block of North Natoma Avenue was burglarized between 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, and 5 a.m. Saturday, March 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that a gas stove valued at $750, a microwave oven valued at $400, a dishwasher valued at $500 and light fixtures were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that an outdoor air conditioning unit valued at $1,600 was stolen from a home in the 5200 block of North Cicero Avenue between Jan. 10 and March 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her home in the 5800 block of West Warwick Avenue was burglarized between 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, and 2:30 p.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she discovered that a snow blower valued at $400 was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his car was burglarized between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, while it was parked in the 6400 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the rear passenger-side window was broken and that a laptop computer valued at $1,200 was missing, according to police.
