Local Crime from 16th District 4-10-19
SHOTS WERE fired at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, April 7, in an alley in the 5700 block of North Mason Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 28-year-old man reported that he was standing outside his garage when a dark-colored hatchback driving east on Seminole Avenue turned north into the alley and a passenger pointed a handgun and fired five to six shots into the air, according to police. Officers recovered two spent 9mm bullet casings in the alley, police said.
SHOTS WERE fired at about 12:10 a.m. Friday, April 5, in the 4200 block of North Melvina Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he heard two gunshots outside at about 12:10 a.m. but saw no one outside, and that the next morning he found two spent bullet casings on the street, according to police.
TWO WOMEN reported that they were threatened with a gun at about 6:45 a.m. Saturday, April 6, in the parking lot of the Presence Resurrection Retirement Community, 7262 W. Peterson Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Two nurses reported that a man in a grey four-door car pulled up next to them in the parking lot and pointed an object that appeared to be a gun before he drove off, according to police.
The man was described as white and about age 50.
A MAN REPORTED that he was threatened with a gun at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in the 6300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 31-year-old man reported that he was parking his vehicle to go to a liquor store when a man yelled from a second-floor apartment "you can’t park there," threw pieces of fruit at his vehicle and then pointed a handgun at him, according to police.
The man was described as white with a light skin complexion, age 25 to 30, about 6-0 and 180 pounds, with short brown hair.
A MAN WAS stabbed at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in the parking lot of Wright College, 4300 N. Narragansett Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A witness reported that he was waiting to exit the parking lot when an unknown man approached the car in front of him, punched the driver through the glass window and attacked the man with a pocket knife until he shouted "hey man, what are you doing" and the attacker ran away east, according to police.
The victim was transported in serious condition to Lutheran General Hospital, police said.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Sprint Store, 5316 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that the store was robbed at about 4:45 p.m. Sunday, April 7, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man looked around the store and exited, returned a short time later and took from a display three sets of portable Bluetooth speakers valued at $1,440 total and dropped his cell phone while fleeing, according to police. The woman reported that she picked up the cell phone for evidence but the man threatened to shoot her without showing a weapon and that she gave the phone back and he ran away south, police said.
The man was described as black, age 20 to 30, 5-6 to 5-8, 150 to 175 pounds, with brown eyes, black afro-style hair, and wearing a black jacket, a white T-shirt, black pants and white gym shoes.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly sprayed a man with a chemical spray at about 11 a.m. Thursday, April 4, in the 4900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he fell asleep at the McDonald’s restaurant, 4946 N. Milwaukee Ave., when a private security guard asked him to leave and he left following an argument, and that as he was walking through a parking lot on Milwaukee, the guard allegedly followed him, retrieved a chemical spray from his vehicle and sprayed him in a crosswalk, according to police. The guard was arrested after the man and a witness identified him, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Frank Mejia, age 53, of the 6200 block of West Rascher Avenue.
SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported between March 30 and April 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen vehicles were reported in the 6200 block of North Moody Avenue, the 6100 block of Northwest Highway, the 4100 block of North Long Avenue, the 5900 block of West Warwick Avenue, the 4800 block of West Argyle Street and the 6300 block of North Nagle Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that he was the victim of a scam at about 5 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at his home in the 7100 block of West Talcott Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A woman translated for her father who reported that he was standing on his front porch when two men exited a gray and light blue Chrysler minivan with temporary license plates and talked about working on tuck pointing at his house and one man escorted him to the rear as the other man entered through the front door, and that after the men left he discovered the bedrooms were ransacked and that $500 in cash and antique gold jewelry were missing, according to police.
The men were both described as age 25 to 35 and about 5-10.
A MAN REPORTED that he was the victim of a scam at about noon Friday, April 5, at his home in the 4500 block of North Mobile Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was walking home when two men approached asking to inspect his roof for water damage, and that when he let them in one man talked to him as the other wandered through the house before he asked for a business card and both men drove away in a dark blue four-door sedan, possibly a Honda, according to police. The man reported that he later discovered that $300 in cash and antique coins were missing, according to police.
The men were both described as white and age 30 to 35.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3400 block of North Ozanam Avenue was burglarized between 9 p.m. Saturday, April 6, and 12:45 a.m. Sunday, April 7, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door was opened and that earrings, bracelets and rings valued at about $10,000 and 12 designer-brand watches valued at $2,000 were missing, according to police.
Shots were fired at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, in the 3700 block of North Elston Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A WOMAN reported that a man tried to steal a package from her porch in the 3400 block of North Pacific Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she was in her home when she saw through the window a man taking a package from her front porch, and that when she confronted the man in an alley the man threw the package back into her backyard, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 20 to 30, 5-8 to 6-0, 200 to 230 pounds, and wearing a black knit ski cap, a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, dark colored pants, black gym shoes and a black and gray backpack.
A MAN REPORTED that his car was burglarized and firearms were stolen between 10 p.m. Friday, April 5, and 6 a.m. Saturday, April 6, while it was parked in the 6000 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his 2011 Dodge Charger he discovered that two handguns valued at $550, a vacuum valued at $300, a drywall screw gun valued at $300, a leafblower valued at $250, a nail gun valued at $180, five extension cords valued at $100 and two toolboxes with miscellaneous tools valued at $600 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized and a firearm was stolen between 6:45 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday, March 31, while it was parked in the 6100 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his Jeep Commander he discovered that the rear passenger-side window was broken and that a backpack containing a leather holster with a handgun loaded with 15 rounds was missing, according to police.
