Local Crime from 16th District 4-2-14
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly robbed the TCF Bank in the Jewel-Osco store, 4660 W. Irving Park Road, at about 9:20 a.m. Monday, March 31, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 22-year-old employee reported that a man approached the counter and handed him a note demanding money and suggesting that he had a weapon, and that he gave the man an undetermined amount of cash and he fled, according to police.
A cab driver reported that he picked up a man in the 3400 block of North Cicero Avenue who told him to drive to the store and to wait for him, according to police. A man in the parking lot reported that he heard a noise and saw smoke from a dye pack coming from the cab and the man fleeing, police said.
The suspect was later arrested based on the descriptions that were provided while he was hiding in a yard in the 4700 block of West Berteau Avenue, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as William Bolton, age 37, of the 4400 block of West School Street.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 7:50 p.m. Monday, March 31, in the 5400 block of North Austin Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 20-year-old woman reported that a man pointed a pocketknife at her and took her wallet containing $400, according to police.
A MAN WAS found dead from an apparent heroin overdose at about 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, in a room at the Elinor Hotel, 3216 N. Cicero Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers discovered the body of a man on the floor in the bathroom with three packets containing a substance suspected of being heroin and five syringes, according to police.
The man was identified by police as Martin Georgiev, age 23, of the 6100 block of North Neva Avenue.
TWO MEN were arrested on drug charges at about 5:40 p.m. Saturday, March 29, in the 6400 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Following a traffic stop, officers smelled the odor of marijuana in the vehicle, and in a search of the vehicle officers found approximately 210 grams of a substance suspected of being marijuana, a pellet gun, a scale and $3,064 in cash, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Carlos E. Olan Jr., age 20, of the 5200 block of West Hutchinson Street, and Mehmet C. Aksoy, age 18, of the 5600 block of West Waveland Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested on burglary charges at about 7:10 p.m. Friday, March 28, in the 3500 block of North Oleander Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 28-year-old man reported that as he drove by he saw a man standing behind a tree, and responding officers saw the man behind a chimney in the yard holding a window screen that he allegedly had removed from the kitchen window of the home, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Carlos Salgado, age 41, of the 3500 block of North Osceola Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested on criminal trespassing charges at about 11:50 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in the 5400 block of West Byron Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A woman reported that she found a man in her garage and who ran away after she confronted him, and responding officers arrested the suspect moments later, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Wilfredo Rosa, age 42, of the 4900 block of West Eddy Street.
A WOMAN reported that she was the victim of a scam at about 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at her home in the 5300 block of West Winnemac Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 87-year-old woman reported that two men offered to perform cement work on her property and that after she talked to one of the men in the kitchen she discovered that a jewelry box containing $10,000 worth of jewelry was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was the victim of a scam at about noon Thursday, March 27, at his home in the 5400 block of West Agatite Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 80-year-old man reported that three men asked if he wanted them to install a sidewalk, and that as he was negotiating a price, one of the men allegedly went upstairs and took an elephant statue valued at $500, according to police. The resident said that he gave the men a check for $6,700 and that he later canceled the check, police said.
One of the men was described as white, age 25 to 45, 170 to 200 pounds. A second man was described as white, age 25 to 35 and 5-7 to 6-0. The third man was described as white and 5-7 to 6-0.
A MAN REPORTED that his camera equipment was stolen between 11:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Friday, March 28, at the Copernicus Cultural and Civic Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was covering an event at the center as a photographer and that his bag containing about $6,500 worth of camera equipment was stolen, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5100 block of North Nagle Avenue was burglarized between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday, March 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that $1,400 in cash and a debit card were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4000 block of North Leclaire Avenue was burglarized between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 24, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door was open and that two laptop computers valued at $2,100 and a diamond ring valued at $2,500 were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL THEFTS of catalytic converters were reported on the Northwest Side from March 24 to March 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 6900 block of West Summerdale Avenue, the 5800 block of North Newark Avenue, the 4900 block of North Monitor Avenue, the 5800 block of North Avondale Avenue, the 5700 block of West Giddings Avenue, the 4800 block of North Mason Avenue and the 5700 block of West Gunnison Street, according to police.
