Local Crime from 16th District 4-5-17
A WOMAN reported that her son was robbed at about 4:45 p.m. Friday, March 31, in the 6100 block of West Warwick Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that her 14-year-old son told her that when he was walking home a man approached him, took his cell phone valued at $700 and pushed him to the ground, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested on gun charges following an incident at about 11:40 a.m. Saturday, April 1, in the 5200 block of West School Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired and witnesses reported that they saw a man exit a black vehicle with a semi-automatic handgun and fire two shots before he drove away, according to police.
Officers discovered a vehicle matching a description in the 5200 block of West Belmont Avenue and saw that the handle of a gun was exposed inside the vehicle under the driver’s seat, police said.
Officers located the vehicle owner inside the Platinum Fade barbershop, 5240 W. Belmont Ave., and the man was arrested after he admitted to police that he fired two gunshots into the air to scare a person he was arguing with, according to police.
Officers recovered two spent shell casings from School Street, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Juan F. Negron, age 26, of the 4100 block of West Oakdale Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that her purse was stolen at about 9:50 p.m. Thursday, March 30, in the 8500 block of West Catherine Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 74-year-old woman reported that when she exited her vehicle, two men approached her, took her purse containing keys, identification and $100 in cash, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her boyfriend robbed her at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30, in the 5100 block of West Strong Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 20-year-old woman reported that she had an argument with her 21-year-old boyfriend and that the man took her wallet containing $400 in cash and credit cards, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 4:15 p.m. Thursday, March 30, in the 4300 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 33-year-old man reported that he was walking with two friends when a white Chevrolet Tahoe drove by them and three men exited the vehicle and one of them pushed him to the ground and kicked and took his cell phone, according to police.
The man was treated at Community First Medical Center, police said.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5300 block of West Agatite Avenue was burglarized at about 12:15 p.m. Saturday, April 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that a jewelry case containing jewelry valued at $30,000 was missing, according to police. The woman reported that her daughter and mother-in-law were both in the upstairs of the home at the time of the incident, but that her daughter was wearing headphones and did not hear anything and that her mother-in-law was sleeping in her room at the time, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 3600 block of North Neva Avenue was burglarized between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday, April 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that his neighbors told him that the side door to his garage had been forced open and he discovered that a 20-foot extension ladder valued at $500 was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 11 p.m. Saturday, April 1, and 11 a.m. the following day, while it was parked in a lot in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that a pair of reading glasses and a pair of sunglasses valued at $800, two pairs of earrings valued at $500, clothing valued at $200 and an iPod valued at $80 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 31, and 1:05 a.m. the following day, while it was parked in the 4000 block of North Laporte Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her vehicle she discovered that a book bag valued at $400, a purse valued at $300, an iPad valued at $250 and a makeup bag valued at $250 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that a man stole a portable basketball hoop from the alley of her home in the 3200 block of North Osage Avenue at about 3:05 p.m. Saturday, April 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she saw a man in a green pickup truck loaded with items stop in the alley near her home and that the man exited the vehicle, cut a lock that was securing a portable basketball hoop with a glass backboard valued at $189 to the apron of the home, loaded the hoop into his truck and drove away, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between noon Saturday, March 25, and 7 a.m. Monday, March 27, while it was parked in the 3700 block of North Nottingham Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered the latches on the rear cabin of his truck had been broken and that several tools valued at $3,236 were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported between March 27 and April 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 4800 block of West Roscoe Street, the 8300 block of West Addison Street, the 5700 block of West Byron Street, the 5100 block of West Melrose Street and the 5200 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to police.
