Local Crime from 16th District 5-14-14

A MAN WAS shot at about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, in the 4900 block of West Roscoe Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 24-year-old man reported that a man flashed gang signals at him, and that after a verbal exchange, the man fired several shots, grazing him in the abdomen and damaging two cars, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED THAT gunshots were fired at him at about 10:05 a.m. Thursday, May 8, in the 3200 block of North Nottingham Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 21-year-old man reported that as he was walking near Nordica and Barry avenues, a group of men shouted gang slogans at him, and that he entered his vehicle and drove away, according to police. The man said that when he returned to the location, the men threw bottles and rocks at him and chased him in a car, and that someone in the car fired shots at him, police said. He said that he fled on foot to a home in the 3200 block of North Harlem Avenue, police said.

A MAN WAS stabbed at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday, May 10, in the 3800 block of North Nora Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Witnesses reported that the 19-year-old man had an argument with another man at a party in the 5900 block of West Wellington Avenue and that they left the party and went to a garage on Nora, according to police. The witnesses said that the man from the party arrived at the garage with other men and that one of them stabbed their friend several times and fled, police said. The man was admitted to Illinois Masonic Hospital in serious condition, police said.

AN EMPLOYEE reported that the Hotel Elinor, 3216 N. Cicero Ave., was robbed at about 2:35 a.m. Saturday, May 10, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 68-year-old man reported that a man entered the hotel lobby, punched him in the face and kicked him when he fell to the ground, and that he lost consciousness, according to police. The man said that when he regained consciousness he discovered that $250 was missing from the cash register, police said.

A MAN REPORTED that a man attempted to lure a girl into his car at about 9 a.m. Thursday, May 8, in the 5000 block of West Ainslie Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 58-year-old man reported that he saw a man driving a black Dodge Challenger attempting to lure a 10-year-old girl into his car, and that he told the girl to wait on his porch and the man drove away, according to police.

A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly pointed a gun at another man at about 6:45 p.m. Monday, May 5, in the 3600 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 26-year-old man reported that a car struck his car and that when he and the other driver got out of their cars, the man pointed a gun at him, according to police. A witness reported that she saw the man point the gun at the other man and then run away and throw the .38 caliber handgun into a garbage can, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Darius Roman, age 22, of the 2500 block of Highland Avenue, Berwyn.

TWO MEN WERE arrested on fraud charges following an incident at about 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, in the 5100 block of North Monitor Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers on patrol stopped a pickup truck with a broken windshield that matched the description of a vehicle that had been used in a concrete repair work scam in the suburbs, according to police. An investigation led police to a 61-year-old resident who reported that the two offered to repair his steps and that he gave them $180 for work that they did not perform, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Niko Wanko, age 19, of the 3900 block of North Harlem Avenue, and a 17-year-old male.

A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 1:35 p.m. Saturday, May 10, outside his home in the 7500 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 21-year-old man reported that a man entered his back yard and argued with him about money that he allegedly owes to another man, and that when he told the man to leave, he struck him on the elbow and forearm with a large tree branch and broke a window on the home, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 3900 block of North Meade Avenue was burglarized between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday, May 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that $16,000 in cash was missing from her nightstand, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that she discovered that her home in the 7200 block of West Thorndale Avenue was burglarized between 6 a.m. Monday, April 21, and 9:30 am. Tuesday, May 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door had been forced open and that $10,000 worth of jewelry was missing, according to police.
