Local Crime from 16th District 5-16-18
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 3:15 a.m. Saturday, May 5, in the 6100 block of West School Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 40-year-old man reported that while he was walking three people approached him, knocked him to the ground and took his iPhone 7 cell phone and wallet containing $250 in cash, according to police. The man was transported to Community First Medical Center in serious condition, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, while he was driving in the 5300 block of West Foster Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 19-year-old man reported that while he was driving his vehicle and stopped at a stop sign, a driver exited a vehicle behind him, approached him, threatened him and punched him in the face before he drove away westbound, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the Jefferson Park Transit Center, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 36-year-old woman reported that as she was exiting the station, a man approached her, punched her in the nose and took her purse containing a wallet and identification cards, according to police.
The woman was treated at Community First Medical Center, police said.
A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed at about 8 p.m. Monday, May 7, in the 3700 block of North Austin Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 14-year-old teenager reported that while he was standing next to his bicycle talking on his cell phone, two men approached him and one of the men knocked him to the ground and punched him in the face while the other man took his bicycle and rode away, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly took items from the Jewel-Osco store, 4729 N. Central Ave., at about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that he saw the man put 13 packages of Tide Pods valued at $234 inside a shopping cart and then leave the store without paying for the items, and that after the man refused his commands to stop and ran away another employee chased the man and detained him in the 5600 block of West Leland Avenue, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Matthew D. Augustyn, age 33, of the 4400 block of North McVicker Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 5900 block of West Eastwood Avenue was burglarized between noon Sunday, May 6, and 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear window had been opened and that a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun containing nine live rounds valued at $502, a Sony Play Station 4 video game console and video games valued at $500, 20 Blu-ray discs valued at $100 and an iPad Pro tablet computer valued at $300 were missing, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that Edgebrook Cycle, 6450 N. Central Ave., was burglarized at about 4:10 a.m. Monday, May 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that when he arrived at the business, he discovered that the front window of the store had been shattered with a rock and that a neon orange Reid Zeus fat tire mountain bicycle valued at $1,100 was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man stole his cell phone at about 7:20 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Shabbona Park, 6935 W. Addison St., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 26-year-old man reported that while he and another man were playing basketball, the man asked if he could use his cell phone, and took his phone valued at $300, entered a gray Mitsubishi car and drove away, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 21 and wearing a red baseball cap, a short-sleeved shirt containing the number 85 and black pants.
A REAL ESTATE agent reported that a residence in the 5600 block of West Byron Street was burglarized between 1 p.m. Friday, May 4, and 4 p.m. Sunday, May 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The real estate agent reported that when he arrived at the residence, he discovered that the rear door had been broken and that copper pipes valued at $2,000 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the tires and rims were stolen from her vehicle between 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, and 6:15 a.m. Thursday, May 10, while it was parked in the 5200 block of West Cuyler Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she parked her 2016 Nissan Altima on the street and that when she returned, she discovered all four tires and rims valued at $1,000 were missing from the vehicle and that the vehicle was propped up on top of bricks, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the tires and rims were stolen from his vehicle between 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, and 5 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in the 5900 block of North Odell Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he parked his 2016 Honda Accord on the street and that when he returned he discovered that all four tires and rims valued at $2,500 were missing and that the vehicle was propped up on top of concrete rocks, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the tires and rims were stolen from his vehicle between 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, and 4:05 p.m. Thursday, May 10, in the 5600 block of West Byron Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he parked his 2017 Mazda 6 on the street and that when he returned he discovered the front and rear driver’s side tires and rims valued at $1000 were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported between May 6 and May 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen vehicles were reported in the 3300 block of North Newland Avenue, the 5900 block of West Higgins Avenue, the 7200 block of West Summerdale Avenue, the 6200 block of West Gunnison Street and the 3400 block of North Linder Avenue, according to police.
