Local Crime from 16th District 5-27-20
A MAN WAS arrested on gun charges after a domestic-related incident required a SWAT team response at about 6:30 a.m. Monday, May 25, in the 3400 block of North Nagle Avenue, according to the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.
Officers spoke with a woman regarding a domestic dispute and attempted to speak to the alleged offender who barricaded himself in the apartment, according to police. Officers were able to make entry into the single family home and recovered two weapons and smelled a strong odor of natural gas emitting from the property, police said. Officers cleared the building and natural gas was shut off and the man was taken into custody, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Leszek Kania, age 61, of the 3400 block of North Nagel Avenue. He was charged with two misdemeanor counts of a firearm without a valid FOID card and two misdemeanor counts of possessing ammunition with a valid FOID, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was attacked at about 10:20 p.m. Friday, May 22, in the 4900 block of North Menard Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 20-year-old woman reported that she was meeting an acquaintance that owed her money and he arrived with a woman that became aggressive and punched her and pulled her hair before spraying her in the eyes with pepper spray, according to police. The woman reported that the couple then fled in a tan Toyota Sienna van in an unknown direction, according to police.
The woman was described as white/Hispanic, age 18 to 20, 5-2 to 5-4, 110 to 120 pounds with medium length black hair.
A WOMAN was arrested after she allegedly threatened two women with a knife at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, May 24, in the 3900 block of North Lamon Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A woman reported that she and a woman were involved in an argument outside of a nearby restaurant, when the woman allegedly threatened to cut her, according to police. The woman reported that she and her mother were then followed by the woman, police said. Officers reported that they were in the area and heard a woman say, "She has a knife" and observed the woman walking towards the two women with a knife in her hand and when police exited their vehicle, the woman folded the knife and placed it in her bag, according to police. The woman told police she wanted to press charges and the woman was placed into custody, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Miranda Reed, age 35, of the 4900 block of North Avers Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested after allegedly attempting to steal a bicycle from a building in the 4900 block of West Montrose Avenue at about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he heard noises from the storage room and when he went to check, he found a man holding his bicycle and attempting to leave the building with it, according to police. The man reported that he and his wife detained the man until police arrived to conduct an investigation and he was taken into custody, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Damian L. Zdeb, age 29, of the 3300 block of North Panama Avenue.
AN EMPLOYEE of BJ’s Auto Repair, 3820 N. Harlem Ave., reported that a vehicle was stolen from the service bay at about 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to an alarm and found that the rear garage door was forced open, according to police. The employee reported that a red 2004 Ford Excursion was missing and surveillance footage showed a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, black gloves, a light-colored backpack and white gym shoes take the vehicle and flee south in the west alley of North Harlem Avenue, police said.
A CPD OFFICER reported that an unmarked vehicle was damaged at about 2:10 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the 6500 block of North Nashville Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The officer reported that he was traveling south in the 6600 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, in Niles, in an unmarked police vehicle when he was sideswiped by a white pickup truck on, according to police. The officer reported that he waved for the man to pull over to a nearby parking lot and the man complied but then fled south on North Milwaukee Avenue before turning west on West Imlay Avenue and then north on North Nashville Avenue, police said. The officer reported that the man turned into a residence parking lot with no exit in the 6500 block of North Nashville Avenue and exited his vehicle, according to police. The officer reported that he told the man to stay in his vehicle so the man got back into the vehicle and drove at a high rate of speed toward the police vehicle, sideswiping it again and causing heavy damage, before the driver fled south on Nashville and west on Imlay, police said.
The man was described as white, age 20 to 30, 6-1 to 6-2, 200 to 220 pounds with blond hair and wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a baseball cap.
