Local Crime from 16th District 5-3-17
EMPLOYEES of the Max’s Food and Liquor store, 6200 W. Belmont Ave., reported that the business was burglarized between 2:50 a.m. and 3 a.m. Friday, April 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of an alarm and discovered that glass front door had been shattered and that there were packing materials lying on the ground near the front door, according to police. Two employees reported that they discovered that 57 bottles of liquor valued at $3,750, 500 packages of cigarettes valued at $7,000, lottery tickets and $700 in cash were missing, according to police.
A video from a surveillance system shows that three men used a pair of bolt cutters to cut three locks from the exterior and then shattered the front door, and that the men entered the store, emptied a trash can, used the trash bag from the can to collect items from the store, and that the men left the store and returned with the bag emptied and filled it up again with items before they exited the store and fled, police said.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Community Food and Liquor store, 5530 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that the business was robbed at about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that two men entered the store, and that one of the men pointed a handgun at him and took unknown amount of cash from the cash register and several bottles of liquor and fled in a silver 4-door sedan, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of Automotive Discount Services, 5738 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the business was burglarized between 6 p.m. Thursday, April 27, and 7:35 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that when he returned to the business he discovered that a cash register containing $400 in cash was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her purse was stolen at about 5:35 p.m., Saturday, April 29, in the 5100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to the 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 43-year-old woman reported that a man grabbed her purse containing identification cards, credit cards and a cell phone, according to police.
TWO MEN reported that two men attempted to break into their home in the 3200 block of North Ozanam Avenue at about 1:20 p.m. Friday, April 28, according to the 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 21-year-old man reported that two men grabbed him by the arms and attempted to enter his home, according to police. The man reported that when his grandfather tried to intervene one of the men pointed a handgun at them and they fled in a blue Ford Windstar minivan, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he heard gunshots at about 11 p.m. Monday, April 24, in the 5100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to the 16th (Jefferson Park) District Police.
The man reported that he heard gunshots shots in an alley and believed that they were fired toward Wilson Park, according to police.
A MAN WAS stabbed at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at a home in the 5300 block of West Leland Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 18-year-old man reported that he thought he misplaced his cell phone in his friend’s basement, and that when he asked his friend if he could use his cell phone to call his cell phone, the man asked him to leave his residence, pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the right side of his chin and cut him multiple times on the right side of his chest, according to police.
The man was transported to Community First Hospital and treated for minor injuries, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 3900 block of North Pittsburgh Avenue was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Friday, April 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear gate had been opened and that his motorcycle and lawnmower were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported between April 23 and April 30, according to the 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicles were reported stolen in the 7500 block of West Rosedale Avenue, the 5500 block of West Higgins Avenue, the 4900 block of North Central Avenue, the 5500 block of West Henderson Street, the 5100 block of North Chester Avenue, the 6300 block of West Cornelia Avenue, the 5700 block of West Giddings Street and the 8100 block of West Forest Preserve Drive, according to police.
