Local Crime from 16th District 5-9-18
A TEENAGER WAS shot and another teenager was arrested following an incident at about 2:35 a.m. Saturday, May 5, in the 3600 block of North Luna Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of a person shot and discovered a 16-year-old witness sitting on the front porch of a residence while holding onto another 16-year-old teenager who was bleeding from a gunshot wound to his left cheek, according to police.
The witness reported that while he and the other teen were smoking in an alley, a vehicle containing passengers who are members of a gang parked near them and allegedly gave them guns and ammunition to hide, according to police. During the incident, it is unclear how the teenager was shot in the face, based on conflicting accounts, police said. The teenager was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in serious condition, according to police.
The witness was arrested after he gave conflicting reports of the incident and officers discovered a rifle inside his residence, blood, an empty magazine, one live .22-caliber round, an empty gun holster, 200 grams of marijuana, 33 containers of liquid THC vape pen inserts, 11 tranquilizer pills and $858 in cash in his bedroom, police said.
Officers also recovered a.38-caliber handgun containing six live rounds, an unloaded.38-caliber handgun and 40 live rounds of ammunition inside the residence, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as a 16-year-old male.
A MAN REPORTED he was robbed at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, outside of the Portage-Cragin Library, 5108 W. Belmont Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 42-year-old man reported that as he was exiting the library, two men approached him and asked him if he had a lighter and that as he began to reach into his pocket, one of the men punched him in the stomach three times and the other man took $90 in cash from his pocket, according to police.
The men were described as black, about 5-7 and between 190 and 200 pounds, and one of the men was described as having a dreadlock hairstyle.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday, April 29, in the 3900 block of North Linder Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 56-year-old man reported that while he was smoking a cigarette, he saw a dark colored Honda Odyssey minivan drive into a nearby alley before two men approached him and said, "Don’t move, give me your money or you will get hurt," and took $10 in cash from his pocket before they fled eastbound through the alley, according to police.
The men were described as white/ Hispanic, age 20 to 25, and one of the men was described as about 5-5 and 150 pounds with black hair.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 10 p.m. Sunday, April 29, in the 3600 block of North Meade Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 35-year-old man reported that the driver of a blue Honda Odyssey minivan exited his vehicle at the mouth of an alley and asked him for a cigarette, and that as he began to check his clothing for a cigarette, the man pointed a handgun at him and took his wallet containing $700 in cash and identification cards from him before he entered his vehicle and drove away eastbound, according to police. The man reported that there were passengers in the front and back seats of the vehicle, police said.
The driver was described as white/Hispanic, age 20 to 30 and about 5-5 and 140 pounds with black hair, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that packages were stolen from the front porch of her residence in the 5100 block of North New England Avenue at about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that a home video surveillance system recorded footage of a man who took two packages containing two shirts valued at $130 and cosmetics valued at $80 from her front porch and then entered a silver vehicle and drove away, according to police.
The man was described as white/ Hispanic, police said.
A WOMAN reported that a package was stolen from the front of her residence in the 5300 block of North Laramie Avenue at about 4:10 p.m. Monday, April 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that a home video surveillance system recorded footage of a man who took a package containing a Cannon camera valued at $317 from the front of her residence, according to police.
The man was described as white with black hair, age 18 to 30, between 5-8 and 5-9 and between 150 and 170 pounds and wearing a black t-shirt, tan shorts and black shoes.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3200 block of North Olcott Avenue was burglarized between 12:15 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that jewelry valued at $4,000, a Dell laptop computer valued at $500 and $200 in cash were missing, according to police.
