Local Crime from 16th District 6-13-18
A MAN WAS SHOT in an apparent gang-related incident at about 2:15 a.m. Friday, June 8, in the 5000 block of West Newport Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 23-year-old man reported that while he was walking a dark-colored Ford Taurus drove near him and that a passenger from the vehicle fired a handgun at him and shot him in his right arm before the vehicle drove away southbound, according to police.
The man was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in serious condition and treated for gunshot wound to his right bicep and triceps, police said.
TWO TEENAGERS were arrested after they allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint at about 12:50 p.m. Saturday, June 9, in the 3400 block of North Nagle Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 19-year-old man reported that three teenagers approached his vehicle in an alley, and that one of them entered the vehicle and said, "We only want money," before he took $20 in cash from inside the vehicle’s glove compartment, while one of the other teens pointed a handgun at him, and demanded "more money" as he patted his pockets and took $95 in cash from him before all three fled northbound, according to police.
Officers detained two teenagers in the 6400 block of West Cornelia Street based on a description and the teens were arrested after they were positively identified, police said.
The officers recovered a .25-caliber handgun with spent cartridges and two live rounds concealed underneath one of the teenager’s clothing, according to police.
The suspects were identified as 17-year-old and 15-year-old male teenagers.
A 22-YEAR-OLD motorcyclist was killed in a reported hit-and-run accident at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday, June 7, in the 5200 block of West Devon Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The motorcycle was reportedly rear-ended by a small black car, and the motorcycle then struck a tree, according to police.
The man was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Steven Lajin, of the 6200 block of North Francisco Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that two men stole a catalytic converter from his vehicle and threatened him with a handgun at about 4:20 a.m. Thursday, June 7, in the 4500 block of North Mason Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 53-year-old man reported that as he was returning to his vehicle after walking his dog, he saw two men standing near his vehicle and that one of the men pointed a handgun at him before he yelled to the other man, "let’s go," and they both entered a black vehicle with temporary license plates and drove away, according to police. The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle, he discovered the catalytic converter was missing, police said. The men were described as black.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was stolen between 3:30 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. Friday, June 8, while it was parked in front of Dirksen School, 8601 W. Foster Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 24-year-old woman reported that she parked her blue 2007 Honda Accord in front of the school while the engine was still running with the keys in the ignition, and that when she returned, she discovered that the vehicle was missing, according to police.
A man reported that his home in the 6200 block of West Warwick Avenue was burglarized between 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 8, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home, he discovered that his front door had been broken and that jewelry valued at $51,615 was missing, according to police.

Thefts were reported in the 4100 block of North Lawler Avenue, the 5300 and 5400 blocks of West Windsor Avenue, the 4900 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, the 4500 block of North Long Avenue, the 4000 block of North Monitor Avenue and the 3900 block of North Marmora Avenue, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported between June 4 and June 8, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen vehicles were reported in the 5400 block of North Natoma Avenue, the 8500 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, the 5200 block of West Montrose Avenue, the 5300 block of West Newport Avenue, the 3300 block of North Natchez Avenue, the 5000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, the 8500 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, the 7700 block of West Devon Avenue, the 3700 block of North Harlem Avenue and the 5500 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue, according to police.
