Local Crime from 16th District 6-4-14
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about midnight Friday, May 30, in the 4600 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 26-year-old man reported that a man punched him in the jaw and took his wallet containing $130, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested on assault charges following an incident at about 1 a.m. Sunday, June 1, in the 5300 block of West Pensacola Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 43-year-old woman reported that as she was talking to a 30-year-old man in her garage, a man approached them, and asked her about gangs, according to police. The woman said that when she told the man that she is not in a gang, he displayed a knife but then ran away, police said. The suspect was arrested on Montrose Avenue based on the description that was provided, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Steven J. Baxter, age 25, of the 5300 block of West Montrose Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that a man fired a gun at her at about 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, in the 5800 block of North Austin Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 51-year-old woman reported that as she was driving south on Austin, a man in a green minivan drove next to her and fired a gun at her, according to police. The woman said that she discovered a bullet hole in her windshield and that the back windshield had shattered, police said.
A WOMAN reported that she was the victim of a scam at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at her home in the 8700 block of West Berwyn Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 76-year-old woman reported that a woman called her and told her in Polish that her daughter was in an accident and had killed someone and that she needed $14,000 from her or the daughter would go to jail, according to police. The woman said that a man who called himself "Sawyer" came to pick up the money and she handed over $1,000 in cash and multiple rings, necklaces and bracelets, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that a man fired a gun at him in an apparent gang-related incident at about 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, in the 4300 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 32-year-old man reported that as he was riding his motorized bicycle, a man on a bicycle asked him what he was looking at and fired three shots at him, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested following a traffic stop at about 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, in the 3600 block of North Mobile Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers stopped a car that was playing loud music, and the driver was arrested after he could not provide a driver’s license and officers found a bag containing 16 grams of a substance suspected of being crack cocaine and two live bullets in the vehicle, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Sugoria Russell, age 24, of the 4600 block of North Central Park Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested on assault charges following an incident at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, in the 3300 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Two utility workers reported as that they were working on cable lines, a man drove in the alley and made several gestures at them that resembled him shooting a gun, according to police. The men said that when they went to work on a second job at Saint Patrick High School, the same man arrived and made shooting gestures, police said. The suspect was arrested on signed complaints, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Janusz J. Rybak, age 62, of the 1800 block of South Marquette Road, Prairie du Chien, Wis.
A WOMAN reported that her purse containing $850 in cash was stolen from her car between 3:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. Sunday, June 1, while it was parked in the 4900 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6500 block of North Natoma Avenue was burglarized at about 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that a rear window was broken and that miscellaneous jewelry, a cell phone valued at $250 and an iPad valued at $500 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6100 block of West Grace Street was burglarized between noon and 4 p.m. Thursday, May 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear basement door had been forced open and that a safe containing $3,000 in cash, jewelry and passports was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that items were stolen from his room at the Holiday Inn O’Hare, 5615 N. Cumberland Ave., between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his room he discovered that the door had been forced open and that two laptop computer valued at $2,300 and other electronics valued at $300 were missing, according to police.
